The basic story line takes place in a semi-apocalyptic yet utopian future. At first all the people lived on the basic ground level and were united, The world lush and green, dominated by forests.
However after a temporal phenomena called a continuum shift occurred, the world suddenly became super saturated with monsters
-
They were too powerful for mortal men to fight off, therefor the only solution was to migrate.
_____
This once united civilization split into two groups, one figuring out how to make islands that could float out of the monsters reach, beyond the troposphere/atmosphere above the clouds so as not to disturb the land below.
-
It took years, but they were eventually able to expand the lands to Alaska sized continents; these lands united would be known as the Seraphian isles, and it's citizens the Seraphs.
They became angelic beings, more elf like in apearance that focused primarily on magic, breathing in raw mana rather than oxygen since it was so scarce/non existant.
These islands were able to grow new plants that weren't as oxygen dependent as the ones below, but soon found out they were still vulnerable to monsters that could fly.
-
This soon changed after a few decades when they discovered their friends had been trying to perfect a new type of nanotechnology simply called Nanocells.
-
After talking to a third impartial party called the Birds_of_Paradise, the sky dwellers gained the license to take over the production of nanocells on the grounds the nanocells were sentient, and the underground cities were deemed unhealthy for them.
Meanwhile the people on the ground figured out how to combine magic and technology to create powerful machines that could drill through the mantle of the planet into the world below.
-
At first they faced a lot of opposition, there were plenty of monsters underground as well, but among them the dwarfs, gnomes, and eventually the cyclops, felt a kinship with them for their knowledge of creation.
The Dwarfs having ready access to rare ore, minerals, and knowledge of crafting, and the humans having the size to wield weapons made from such ore; they made a pact, living together and helping each other.
Apart of this pact was the creation of Tulpavatar s.
This civilization would soon be known as Umbradel and it's citizens the Umbrae.
-
It was this partnership that sparked the idea of creating the Nanocells, but after a legal debate with the seraphs, reluctantly handed over the right to manufacture nanosapiens to the seraphs.
To compensate they focused on forging weapons to defend themselves from the monsters below; a point rendered virtually moot since growing organic food was and still is impossible.
___
After awhile though people began to go beyond their underground cities. With strength in numbers and the creation of "Epitaph" weapons, they were able to push the monsters back and made a settlement around a massive tree.
-
The underground people now had almost complete control of the land.
The two sides soon sought to gain what the other had; this would have led to a war that wiped each other out, but one people from each side spoke up, having come up with a plan in secret.
They made a deal that the two would fight using only the technology each side had honed in secret; whoever lost, the side they represented from then on would have control of their new technology.
___
A trick, both warriors lost, and so both sides switched places. It was a disaster, neither side having the knowledge or the time to adjust to the drastically different environments.
-
One year later the two nations met in the Forest capital, reuniting to settle their differences. Signing a treaty, the two nations agreed to stay united, the forest capitol belonging to both the Seraphs and the Subterrans.
-
This forest capitol became the center for trade and commerce, and every eighty-five years the two nations choose their best fighters to battle, enlightening the new generation to how they are all separate yet united.
In this story there are four factions, broken into two groups
truths vs ideals, and order vs chaos.
The pursuers of ideals/Ryue_Lunarians
When Draco opened the book, the history of the lunarians was released back into the world, this created a continuum shift, as he was given his true life, and the descendants of the remaining lunarians were brought back into existence.
The lunarians are a race of people who lived on the moons of planets. However after the celestial war, the vast majority were killed.
For every moon phase only one exists.
They all have some amount of dragon in their blood, and the blood beckons them to Aragea, a planet of dragons.
The only problem is leaving the planet they're currently on.
For that they need all 12 zodiac fragments, jewels that hold the souls of the five people and 7 of 8 animals who fought in a great war.
They'll make a bridge of light that will lead to the 13th zodiac fragment, the key to finally making their way home.
The enforcers of truth, The Sarvajna/The All knowing ones
The world this story takes place in was peaceful until the continuum shift. The history of the lunarians and the celestial war was brought back into the world and history was rewritten with the war in place.
-
Many people were brought back into existence, yet at the same time some people who have ZERO impact on history were brought into the new dimension as well.
-
These people are called Kaluwa, or simply " the forgotten ones". These are people who died with no one remembering them; in this new dimension they are reincarnated as themselves, given a second chance to create an impact on the world and be remembered.
___
The Kaluwa drift about in a world between worlds. People call it the "Dimensional Miasma". Here they stay, until a new/parallel dimension opens up and they can slip into place. Various things happen can happen after a kaluwa's death as they slip into the miasma.
1. "I am dead, nothing exists after it"
They people stay in a deep sleep, not waking up until a parallel dimension forms. They will wake up, the memory of their death erased, feeling groggy and confused.
-
2. "Death is not the end but another beginning, but the beginning of WHAT?"
Instead of sleeping in comatose, the forgotten people drift and walk about in the fog. People observe each other as faint images in the fog, and if two people bump into each other, the fog around their bodies lift, and a world is made from their collective conscious mind.
Playing together in their paradise inevitably they will drift apart, the memories of the people they met still intact; these people will be fated to meet again.
-
3. "Upon my death I shall reap what I have sown"
If they wake up, some people can wind up tormenting/rewarding themselves. The dimensional miasma grows, and splits like a cell undergoing mitosis.
The person subconsciously makes his/her own heave/hell waking up to what they believe is their afterlife.
When they slide into a new dimension what they experienced will be rememebred as a nightmare/dream, giving them incentive to change or continue what they have done in the new world.
-
4. "Where am I? I am lost!"
But there those rare occasions where a person can get lost in the miasma. They drown in their own fear and paranoia and transform into monsters; these beasts devour the "existence" of those they find so they can escape the miasma, or simply drag other people into the darkness so they become monsters as well.
Afterall as the saying goes, "misery loves company"
-
5. "This is not your appointed place in history to die. We shall escort you to your proper world"
The only people exempt from this are the actual Kaluwa those that already have a place in history. This is a more specific example, when a historic event has not been concluded.
-
If more than one person share a history like this, they actually don't wander mindlessly through the fog and are in fact escorted through it in some timeline relevant form of transportation (for example a train).
-
The people on this train are kept separate yet connected, each in their own railroad car.
When the final destination is reached they'll awaken like nothing had happened; the past life they had lived simply hand-waved away as nothing more than a dream.
P.S The dimensional miasma can also be an acceptable place for Rp's to start in.
Nanashii is a part of a historic event that has not been concluded (a class 5 kaluwa), mainly the Celestial war. As long as the Lunarian descendants exist/ Elica lives on, this event shall still continue.
After the continuum shift Elica sought out other powerful kaluwa who could handle sin and enlighten people to sin; sometimes going so far as actively interfering with the lives of the people she recruited before hand.
To separate her ragtag group of friends from the common bunch, she named their new group the Veduny/The knowing ones.
Elica's mother is the goddess of madness, the changeling one of her later creations. Elica Guignol cares alot about the truth.
The main truth being the fact the world isn't how it's supposed to be.
-
When the world was being created, all the gods collaborated, adding light, order, and virtue. However when it was time for Elica's mother to add darkness, chaos, vice, and sin the other gods pushed her aside. The people are still pure and filled with light as the gods desired, and the Celestial war resulted in The goddess's death.
-
Now it's their turn, picking up where her mother left off, not destroying the world but completing it by trying to reintroduce sin and chaos.
Once all of the people's differences had been settled, the now two and a half nations returned to their respective homes.
-
All of the nations are republics, meaning the people elect representatives to make and enforce laws.
-
Beyond this though they have vastly different societies
___
The Seraphs mainly have a horticultural society, yet is mixed with post industrial and nomadism.
The sky islands don't have a set location, drifting about in the atmosphere so common maps aren't efficient. Instead they chart and mark the atmosphere itself, making notes of where certain types of monster frequent.
-
Also ever since the nanocells experiment became a booming sucess, some people became hunters, attacking these beasts to bring in meat.
However the Seraph's primary focus is the production of fruits and vegetables.
As a result the Seraphs are rather healthy and healthcare/insurance is less of an issue.
Meanwhile the Subterrans are a more straight forward Industrial society with Semi-feudalism.
looking at how the cities are connected by the monorails from a birds eye view, we'd see they look similar to a Chinese civilization. The smallest civilizations are on the outside of the snowflake, while the biggest one is in the center.
The main focus and type of labor is either
1. Mining for ore
2. Creating new tunnels
3. "Being a canary"/scouting ahead for monsters in a new cave clearing
4. Engineering/repairing machines in factories
5. Or lastly, smithing with ore recieved/forging new weapons.
___
Those who are masters of a craft will eventually be moved to the Center city; this system rewards people who persevere and are passionate about their work.
The subterrans at the same time also appreciate those well versed in medicine since all the jobs are rather dangerous.
People speculate that the birds of Paradise arrived as a counter balance to the sudden super saturation of chaos; the truth is actually not far off; the Birds of Paradise are almost as Ragtag as the Veduny/The Knowing ones, but are united by a friendship forged over thousands of years.
-
The birds of Paradise had started out from the Middle-East/(Abit off the coast of Spain to Egypt) to the Far East/(China to Japan), and in their pursuit of knowledge was brough to their current world by accident, wandering through the dimensional miasma, the border of borders between all dimensions and alternate realities.
Reaching the new world. they shared their wisdom with the Seraphs and the Umbrae, managing to gain a small cult following.
-
The people who respected them, put the five avians' names in the run for election for the middle Forest nation Zymlhend; this way the Birds of Paradise could get a position of power and funding to actively assist people. However when their plan didn't work the people pressured the Birds of paradise to spread their wings and become their own nation.
_____
While they knew it was gamble, they knew it was a gamble with high benefits should they succeed.
Once everything was in order they declared themselves and their followers an Independent republic, and even after finding a Sky island that hadn't been colonized yet; they still managed to survive through trade and resolving conflicts as a third impartial party.
They were the ones who granted the Seraphs the license to manufacture Nanocells, seeing that they needed clean air and wide open areas to function properly. They even went so far as to invest in the project, getting their money back and then some as the people living beneath their guidance prospered.
-
However one day The Veduny/knowing ones started to gain ground, corrupting their people.
Like rambunctious brats, they started to break away from the Birds of Paradise and their teachings in favor of the evil changeling child [[Elica_ Guignol]].
They struggled and pleaded for them to stay, but no one listened as chaos started to run rampant through their city streets.
_____
Realizing that the root of the problem was sin, they tried to learn how to
1. cleanse themselves of the sins
2. purify their hearts
and most importantly to them
3. amplify their virtues to combat sin
-
While they could indeed go without certain things like Lilith controlling her anger and Nyx learning how to swallow her pride; they couldn't become completely unbound.
Learning to surpress sin =/= completly getting rid of it in it's entirety.
-
Learning to lean on each other; they didn't need to however, for as long as they stayed together they knew how to combat sin as a whole.
Thus after a few years they started to experiment with magic in new ways, trying creating special techniques tempered from the seven virtues.
-
Each of the birds pledged to themselves they would commit to their virtue, becoming envoys of the seven virtues and shelter the humans beneath their wings.
This declaration made a magical surge in Nyx's infinimoire.
It revealed an avian that had become enlightened to the point of becoming pure energy was imprisoned within under the spell nameSilent_Selene, so much virtue had set her free.
To show her gratitude, she revealed to them their true names, unlocking their true potential.
-
They opened up the gates to their nation once more, and the corrupted people walked in with evil intent. . . . but they could feel it. . . the light was too bright, blinding; the humanitarian republic had become a secretive dictatorship.
-
They were going to help their people anyway they could, WHETHER THEY LIKED IT OR NOT; the birds of paradise werent fooling around anymore.

Above all else they seek nothing more than to preserve the utopia and purity the world already has. While Elica's scheme to protect the world sounds good on paper, this kind of evolution would take centuries to bring about and several more before it became set in stone.
As a result sometimes they'll throw away their neutrality to resolve an issue if a verbal compromise can't be reached, and the justice system proves to be insufficient at keeping aggressors contained.
While the birds_of_paradise seek to preserve the world and heal it so it can grow and prosper; the barrier maidens seek the destruction of the current world and the creation of the next.
They don't have the tools to invade either the sky dwellers or the ground lurkers. Instead they control the middle ground, taking over citadels and enslaving the people within.
They assist the Vedunny, keeping and eye on the Lunarians whenever they can, and when they think they can actually pull it off, try to kill them.
