OOC notes: these characters are one of the four factions, in this case the anti-existence the Birds_of_Paradise. As such they also exist in the same universe with the Nanocells as the Kaluwa and the lunarians.

To those who played or know about Brave fencer musashi, the leaders are kinda like the crest guardians. highly honed in a certain aspect. The can be killed, or beaten into submission granting you a portion on their power.

Playable Characters

Queen of Giants: "Heheh, it's been awhile since a tiny tried to challenge me. Hm? Why am I calling you a tiny when I'm the same size as you? . . heh the same reason I'm sitting in this enormous throne."

A Red panda barrier maiden queen, honed in Earth magic; she opened a rift to the a dimension where everything was upscaled to macro proportions. Baiting this new realm's biggest Macro dragon into swallowing her
whole she spent the new few months gnawing and eating away at his heart until he died, absorbing his massive soul so she became a giantess herself. With new power in tow, she returned to her original dimension with the power to become a mega macro of 3,000 feet talle her footsteps able to flatten entire cities.
Her favorite habit is baiting warriors wanting to kill her into "arenas", only to find out the arena is nothing more than a crater formed by her stomping into the ground, the queen able to still fit her foot into the crater perfectly.

Overall facts

---

The barrier maidens are a vast group of rebels that used to follow the birds of paradise. One day they were sent out to investigate a massive insurgence of chaos, discovering that the "Goddess of Madness" had reached their world. Unable to stand up to Elica_Guignol, they were infected with madness, and turned away from their former avian leaders.

The group of rebels only reached out to people of their own species to join them, and after a long time of trial of error they found a way to survive continuously; putting themselves up for hire as among other things, a "secret police service" .
However with the madness guiding them, they have their own goal.

While the Birds_of_Paradise seek to preserve the world and heal it so it can grow and prosper; the barrier maidens seek the destruction of the current world and the creation of the next, as a way to mock the phoenix, Lilith.

Continuing to do various odd jobs, they slowly work their way into a city's vital locations (things like the mayor's office, the water/electric company, factories that process food/weapons/armor, schools, and shops).
-
Once they've saturated the city with their agents they bide their time, letting people relax and lower their guard.
The 'Mayor's assistant'/Queen tanuki will be organizing the new society and her workers which until then were nothing more than indentured servants.

Eventually an invisible signal is given and the civilians are enslaved; however those that are too powerful are slain/devoured before the signal is given.
-
Civilians that remain are either reduced to cattle or slaves, constantly extorted through heavy taxes and toll roads not allowing anyone to leave the settlement without paying a massive fee.
They use their clans namesake, a spherical force field ruling out digging under the barrier to safety.

There are times they have been forced to retreat, so they have home bases in the form of temples. Each temple has it's own world/paradise within since they're built on the weakest points of dimensional boundaries, acting similar to keystones.

As individuals they try to keep a low profile and avoid giving their true names, for those that fail a take over have very high bounties placed on their heads in a bid to either force the maidens to go even further under cover, or smoke the remaining maidens in the city out.

Ranks

The barrier maidens also have a social hierarchy based on talents/how many dragon souls one can house within their bodies (to be explained further down). A tribe of warriors those that can house dragon souls get moved to another village where they can properly hone their powers.

Putting it simply. it's a scale of 1 to 10 with ten being the queens/rulers.

Tanukis- 5+ how many souls (5 being the max)

Red Pandas- 3+ how many souls (7 being their max )

Racoons- 1+ how many souls ( 9 being their max )

Skills/Talents

When the madness infected them they also came more in tune with their feral instincts;
their boldness and curiosity being their more defining features.

Poking around the more fragile points of time and space they soon found "loop holes", able to appear anywhere in the world in the blink of an eye.
They forged special daggers that can more readily create new loopholes, escaping or ambushing foes in the blink of an eye.

However their main defining skill is the ability to absorb and control dragon souls.Meditating among the bones or in dragon memorials they can find the soul, and through force/bargaining/persuasion the dragon will house themselves within the body of the barrier maiden.

This often has mixed results depending on how strong the barrier maiden is in comparison to the dragon s/he's trying to ensnare

Like the birds of paradise they also have a hive mind, connecting each other. This is how they can know when to swarm and can almost instantly relay information on a target. The strongest of their creed act as the "queens" filtering all the thoughts and give the final orders.

Species specific skills


Tanuki are masters of disguise and shape-shifting. Gifted with illusions they keep a satchel full of leaves using genjutsu to make people stumble and trip over themselves if people try to chase after them.
They mainly use Earth magic.

Red pandas are more powerful in body, living in the mountains. Red Pandas are the ones tasked with turning the dragon bones into weapons.
They're the main ones who can use fire and wind magic.

Racoons are usually glossed over in the raw power or magic departments. They have to rely on wits and cunning. When a target needs to be killed the racoons are usually the one who can pick the locks and let the others get in stealthily. The truly skilled ones can kidnap the target or knock them unconscious. Those who are lucky enough to learn magic usually learn the more potent forms of water magic.

Dragon warrior classes

With so many ways to manipulate a dragon's soul it makes sense the queens broke down the talents into special classes. This list is listed in order of most powerful/rarest to weakest/most common.

Dragon pilots- Usually racoons, their existence is a hollow one. Pursuing magic they eventually go too deep and learn a powerful spell that shatters their conception of limitations and logic , now mentally unstable.

A top tier version of the dragon tuners and riders, their only purpose is to become a vessel for the dragon and control complex machinery with their sharpened minds.
The nukes of the society, dragon shells usually only have one soul per spell.

Dragon riders- Red pandas and Tanukis hold this slot able to handle the blend of tuning and channeling. Forcing the dragon through a medium and giving it a body, the maiden will then climb onto their back and ride them into battle.

While the maiden is still the primary target, dragon riders wear light weight armor and having weapons of their own, can fight people who try to wrestle control of the dragon from them.

Dragon wailers- All species can hold this slot, but usually red pandas are the majority.
Learning the language of the dragons they usually have the most dragon souls, able to talk with their spirits and give the most complex commands.

The dragon wailers can control those who don't understand the language to do anything they want. The easiest way to find them is to look at what kind of clothes their wearing, if they have scarfs or anything protecting their neck they're a wailer.

(All dragon warriors need to know how to speak basic draconic)

Dragon channelers- One of the two basic types of Barrier maidens. Channeling is where it all begins. Finding the bones or burial site of a dragon, they meditate amongst them and 'touch' their wounded souls to bond with the dragon.

Their main form of attacking is taking the soul from their body and forcing it through some sort of medium, whether it be something as small as a candle flame, or as vast as a wide open prairie, or abstract as the wind or their opponents own magic/soul.
-
They give the dragon a temporary body and can have them fight on their behalf giving them power boosts or healing them as the fight goes on.
They wear little to no armor since unless it's an earth dragon, cold metals interfere with the link.

Dragon tuners- The other basic type of the dragon warriors. They keep the dragon within them and after synching up, the maiden can do things the dragon can like breath fire.

Their eyes will look more reptilian, and the main way to break the link is to hit them with a hard enough blunt strike that they stagger backwards.
They usually take the bones of the dragon and turn them into weapons or armor, as such are the only group that wears heavy armor.

Weakness

Stunning attacks are the most effective way to take one out. If they have a chance to call for help people will find themselves being swarmed by more and more barrier maidens.
Getting that first punch in will snap their link to the hive mind and make them rely on their own powers as a dragon warrior.
