Personality When creating an artificial intelligence, one hurdle for the design team to overcome is that of the possibility of the AI quite simply disposing of the human crew, a flaw which could keep any AI from being taken into service. In order to correct this, the designers decided to make the AIs stability reliant upon interaction with the crew. Surely self-preservation would succeed over an urge to take sole command, right? And it seemed to work, with no instances of artificial mutiny occurring throughout the Starfleet.

There never seemed to be any problems with this system, all that needed to be done was to maintain human contact with the intelligence. Unfortunately for Joyeus, the incident which translocated the vessel also incapacitated 100% of the crew onboard. Faced with a almost certain loss of stability or a morally dubious path of reconstruction, she chose the latter, substituting human contact for simulations and artificial personalities formed by herself.

The differences involved in running a simulation containing several sentient beings and actual physical contact between lifeforms contained in seperated bodies left Joyeus with an unusual duality, one as the virtual godess of her own cabal of sentients, another as the relatively lonely physical avatar, scratch built and one of a kind.

Background Joyeus is a fourth generation 'Smart' AI created from the brain of Dr Irene Ferion after her death in 2551. For the majority of the two years of her life she was assigned to the Marathon class cruiser UNSC Berlin, yet towards the end of her second year she was transfered to the Carrier Waterloo. During the slipspace jump to the shipyards where the Carrier was being prepared for its next patrol, the slipspace drive of the Corvette she was being transported in suffered a catasrophic failure.

The emergency protocols were designed for atmosphic flight rather than FTL travel. The resulting decompression neutralised the Corvette's crew before the AI could be placed in control to override the commands. Without control or even a working slipspace drive, the Corvette gradually lost velocity in the slipspace until it transitioned back into regular space, unfortunately this didn't mean it was in the same universe.

The Corvette now rests not even a mere foot uner the ground of the park the only entrance being via the dorsal hatch atop the bridge. Inside is the system which Joyeus is stored in, along with the holotank which would usually contain her. Usually because, as one of the more unusual side effects of the transition, Joyeus' avatar has a 'life of its own'. While she is still contained within the system of the Corvette, her avatar is free for her to control as he wishes, in a rather more physical form than its original holographic state, all while she is able to edit it as she could her original. Using her new avatar, she is able to leave the corvette and explore the park, finding more out about the place she has crashlanded in.
