Set The Scene
With our iconic main building in central Marunomia
and a new, rural campus in the quiet country town of Sanya, there's a home for you at Maruac no matter your habitat.
Meet Maruac
Marunomia Academy is an elite three-year preparatory school founded nearly 600 years ago during the Age of Adventure.
The world has changed; our commitment to excellence has not. Our students may no longer slay dragons, but the modern world has plenty of challenges still to conquer.
Make History Your Story
As the "Marunomia Adventure Academy," we made a name for ourselves by consistently producing legendary adventurers. The name may have changed, but our reputation remains.
Today's graduates are just as impressive as their predecessors. With world-class teaching and endless opportunity, at Maruac, we'll prime you to make your own mark on history.
Extraordinary, Ordinary
Whatever you are, we'll make you a good one. World leaders, famous artists, and record-setting athletes have all passed through our gates, their natural talents nurtured within.
Dreams, Meet Reality
In the Age of Adventure we produced more elite Scouts than the next two schools. Today, 92% of surviving seniors enter their first-choice college, making us the #1 prep school in the Nexus.
The Best of All
Anyone from any background can carry potential for greatness. If you've got what it takes, we want you at Maruac, whether you identify as pred, prey, human, anthro, or something in-between. We boast an above-average student survival rate thanks to our strong community and emphasis on coexistence.
Academics
Hunger for Knowledge
At Maruac, experts teach small classes in first-class facilities while personalized guidance ensures no student falls behind. You'll cultivate a passion for life-long learning, broadening your horizons and continuing to grow even after graduation.
Put it into Practice
We've always believed in practical education. As much as is possible, you'll learn by doing, not from lectures or a textbook. Maruac offers more annual field trips, live demonstrations, and hands-on learning than any other school.
Study Abroad
With countless international partnerships, the world is your oyster. Students have studied in jungles, deserts — even at sea. Spend a semester or year abroad at one of our partner schools, taking courses with locals or learning a new language.
Student Swap
The Student Swap program lets any Maruac student temporarily "tap in" to a Nexus school of their choice. Take a class we don't offer, or make friends on the other side of town. It's a great way to gain off-campus experience and strengthen community ties.
Life @ Maruac
A Tale of Two Campuses
Our main building is located in the bustling modern metropolis of Marunomia. Those needing a magic leyline, access to nature, or just seeking a quieter student life can enroll at Sanya, our traditional country campus several hours outside the big city.
Home Away From Home
Over 40% of students enrolled at either campus live at school. Eat in our dining hall, or snag a snack from a vending machine and watch the sun set over Sanya. Stock up on spirit at the school store, or shop high fashion on Marunomia's Main Street. You’ll love living close to classes and campus facilities.
Expand Your Horizons
Whether you commute or live on-campus, life at Maruac is a chance to connect with and learn from a diverse community. Intra-school ingestion is strongly discouraged, so you'll have a unique opportunity to coexist in a mostly-safe environment. Students are thus strongly encouraged to pursue interspecies relationships and make friends up and down the food chain.
Happy Meals
High school can be tough, whether you identify as pred or prey. Our licensed counseling center is always open and ready to help with anything from bad breakups to friends becoming food.
Clubs & Extracurriculars
Connect and Engage
Meet new people, share your passions, and extend learning beyond the classroom — no matter how niche your interests. Maruac hosts dozens of clubs and organizations open to all students, whether they study in Marunomia or Sanya.
Empowered to Lead
We take seriously our duty to mold the leaders of tomorrow. Maruac's Student Council holds unusual power and autonomy in order to let student representatives bear real responsibility, and that trust extends down even to class and club presidents. Student leaders will set agendas and solve problems together in an environment that prepares them for future leadership, while subordinates learn to engage in the democratic process.
All The World's A Stage
You don't need a telescope to spot stars at Maruac. Countless famous artists got their start in our world-class arts program, and industry insiders keep an eye on our stages looking for the Next Big Thing.
Even if you're not looking to make it big, you'll have an audience. Visitors flock from abroad just to see our annual school festival, and partnerships with theatres, concert halls, and exhibition spaces mean there's always a stage for you to strut your stuff.
Athletics
Time-Tested Tactics
Our rigorous program of physical proficiency was developed to meet the needs of adventurers for whom athleticism was a matter of life and death. Today, we're just as committed to keeping you kicking — preferably outside of a stomach.
Goal-Based Phys Ed
Whether you're looking to dominate the food chain or just to stay off the bottom, our star coaches will help you to achieve your goals. We give predators a strong foundation on which to build their lives — and prey a chance to live them at all.
Swing for the Fences
No matter your species or skill level, at Maruac we'll help you to be all you can be. We guarantee you'll have improved by the time you graduate, whether you start as a beginner or already a pro.
You'll have plenty of opportunities to test yourself along the way, whether at interschool matches, state-level competitions, or even national championships. Or just turn out for Sports Day, and compete against your classmates in friendly, school-wide games!
Marunomia Campus
Our main campus has stood in the beating heart of Marunomia for nearly 600 years.
Step outside after class and find yourself in an urban artery like no other. Let yourself be carried with the crowds, or duck in to one of a thousand restaurants, shops, and other businesses; carve out a corner of the city as your own, or opt never to walk the same road twice.
There's so much to do that, if you're not careful, you may find yourself swallowed up by the city...proverbially, of course.
Heritage and History
The original "Marunomia Adventure Academy" burned down centuries ago, but our modern campus carries on its traditions. You'll walk the grounds where countless aspiring adventurers once did, and stand in the footprints of past legendary heroes. No other school can offer the same heritage.
Adventure Awaits
We may no longer be an adventuring academy, but there's plenty still to be had in the big city! Endless entertainment, buzzing nightlife, frequent festivals, concerts, and more pack one day in our metropolis with excitement to rival any quest.
And while it's easy to feel lonely in high school, with hundreds of students on-campus and hundreds of thousands of people in the city beyond, you're sure to find someone to your taste.
"There's always something to do and new people to meet in the city. After three years, I feel like I've barely scratched the surface!"
Center of the Universe
Marunomia is the meeting point of politics, culture, capital, technology, ideas, and people: the hub through which everything passes, abstract or concrete. Our enviable location could grant anyone access to once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.
But you won't be just anyone: you'll be an Academy student. We spent hundreds of years building relationships in the city. You'll find your student ID alone can open nearly any door.
What will you reach for with the world at your fingertips?
Sanya Campus
If Marunomia is the city that never sleeps, Sanya is a nap outside on a warm spring day.
Originally built as an agricultural school for rural students, our three-story building still towers over the quiet farming village around it. It's a single-stoplight town, serviced only by a single sleepy station and the occasional one-car trains that trundle through.
Still, with a powerful magical leyline lurking just beneath the surface, things never get too quiet...
A Habitat for Everybody
Sanya is perfect for anthro and demi-people, offering a rich variety of terrain from from grassy fields and burbling brooks to dense forests and mountain cliffs — even several swamps. You'll feel at home no matter your species.
Live with the Locals
You don't need to study abroad to experience a new culture. Maruac Sanya proudly guarantees admission to local villagers, so you'll live and learn alongside people with a very different background, lifestyle, and culture than one you may be used to. Help bring in the harvest, or sip sake with a shrine maiden. Cultural exchange inspires everything we do at Sanya.
"I made better friends over three years in Sanya than in fifteen outside . . . even the town feels like a friend."
Life on the Leyline
With the region's most powerful magical conduit flowing just beneath the town, Sanya is perfect for power-sensitive species and those in touch with the arcane. Trained faculty constantly monitor efflux, so you can rest easy even during a leyline surge.
Despite the leyline's latent power, we're proud to hold the International Magic Energy Agency's record for fewest accidental interdimension transplants, monster spawns, and resized bodies.
Out of Character
TL;DR
Not one for long profiles? Just in the mood for a quickie?
Head over to the Student Profiles, pick a pic you like, and leave the rest to me.
Don't worry about "lore" unless you're into that sort of thing. I designed this setting to be as flexible as possible, so I can accomodate nearly any desired character(s), setting, or scene.
Author's Note
Now that's out of the way, welcome to the rest of you!
Truly, thank you for reading.
I always love to chat with people (unless I'm marked DND) even if it doesn't lead to a scene. Please don't hesitate to say hello. I remember being scared of fancy profiles when I started, but know I'd love to talk to everyone and anyone — even if you're just a lurking blackback. Likewise, I welcome feedback and bug reports. I try my best to test but I'm only one girl!
If you're not in the mood for schoolgirls today, or curious to see some of my other profiles, do check out my alts on the right. I'm usually open to play any of my characters.
Did You Know?
Maruac has no official uniform, although many students opt to wear one regardless.
The tradition harkens back to the days when adventurers-in-training were expected to supply their own armor.
Preferences
All preferences are generally negotiable, though any slider fully +/- is going to be harder to budge. Feel free to ask if there's anything you want to tweak, exclude, or include!
On Permadeath
This profile is designed around perma play. On being perma'ed, an unlucky girl's profile will be updated with a brief description of her fate; if desired, I can also link to the pred. That said, I neither require nor assume perma.
If you're interested but we've never done a scene before, or you're looking a "grab-n'-gulp," I may ask to incorporate an element of chance. Each girl has a likelihood of permadeath, and their odds get worse each time they star in a scene. (For example, a new character has a 1/6 chance of dying forever; should they survive, their odds drop to 1/3, and so on to 5/6.) You can guess a girl's odds by looking at the color beneath her card: the redder, the deader. I do this so I can better "get to know" my characters before they are inevitably snuffed out.
