Gemstone_Citrine

This character is based in the world of Steven Universe. She mostly exists to interact with other characters that hail from that world, meaning that other Gems will take precedence, but she is still available for play with other, unrelated characters as well.

Some spoilers for the series are present in this profile. Please proceed cautiously with that in mind.

Story.

Do you know what it's like to be lucky? To have the cards always fall in your favor, to the point where nearly every day graciously brings you new fortune and success?

Citrine does. And she hates it.

Like many Gems, she was born-- or rather, made-- on Homeworld, several thousands of years ago. Shortly after her creation, it came to light that her Gem power had manifested in an interesting and unprecedented manner: while citrines were typically blessed with a measure of good luck, this particular Citrine was imbued with the innate ability to warp probability in her favor. This surfaced as a more or less passive trait rather than something she could control; she was simply extraordinarily, stupidly lucky. Since a great war was in the midst of transpiring, and citrines were lauded and looked up to as fairly high-class warrior Gems, her superiors immediately jumped at the possibility of sending someone with that kind of inherent luck into the fray. She would be a beacon, a paragon of battle whose strikes would always hit their mark... a legendary heroine whose fair skin would never endure a single scratch!

Except, of course, there was a problem. Citrine, like every other Gemstone of her type, was born to be combat capable... but through some cruel twist of fate, a defect arose during her development. When she was ordered to take her staff and undergo training with the assumption that she would show some level of martial prowess, it became clear within a matter of days that she was absolutely incompetent at fighting. Her luck allowed her to land or dodge the occasional blow, perhaps, but she was utterly incapable of grasping even the most basic techniques. This was what she had been created for, her entire purpose in life... and she couldn't do it.

Bitterly disappointed and infuriated that the defect squandered her potential, the higher-ups instead tried the next best thing: teaching Citrine to transfer her power to other Gems. This tutoring proved far more successful-- having likely been among Citrine's natural abilities from the beginning-- and upon its completion, she was sent out onto the battlefield with one job. She was to bestow the entirety of her fortune upon the strongest soldiers, leaving her with miserably poor luck... then sit on the sidelines and watch, because there was nothing else she could do to help.

The only thing she was good for, she was consistently told, was her power. As an individual? Worthless. As a citrine? Shameful. She was an embarrassment to society, unworthy of the respect that her kind usually demanded. Citrine quickly grew timid and submissive as the expendable nature of her life was repeatedly drilled into her brain. She was terrified to even attempt making friends with anyone; they would just reject her once they saw how pathetic she was, wouldn't they? They might pretend to like her because of the power she could grant them, but it had to be a facade, put up so that they could keep her luck for themselves! ... In the end, though, she eventually reasoned, that was fine. Even a false friend would be better than having no friends at all. And maybe, just maybe, there was someone out there with the capacity to genuinely care for a Gem who, ironically enough, felt that her gift of fantastic luck was very unlucky indeed.

Yet even a depressingly complacent and passive person like Citrine has their limits. Years later, having grown weary, guilty, and miserable from participating in the war, she eventually defected to the side of the rebels near the end of the conflict. They, at least, were willing to accept the defects, the failures, the oppressed. Rose Quartz claimed that a Gem could be anything they wanted to be, that they could step beyond the singular purpose they were created for... and that mentality gave Citrine hope. She had never taken any delight in assisting Homeworld, and finally mustered the courage to withdraw from their ranks, breaking away from the cruel superiors who had used and degraded her. While she could hardly escape the fighting by joining the rebellion, she could at least be fighting for something that she legitimately believed in.

Following the war, Citrine remained on Earth. She considers herself an ally of the Crystal Gems-- the last surviving remnants of the rebel faction-- but does not act as a direct part of their team. She lives and travels alone, or perhaps with her friends Zircon and Morganite, or maybe with a mysterious Gem named Rainbow Moonstone or an insecure one named Onyx. Who she left Homeworld with, you see, varies greatly depending on which version of Citrine you're looking at. Her past is virtually always the same, up until the point where she chooses to defect. But there, the path splits into many roads... some of which lead to her finding happiness, and far more that lead to her ruin.

Character.

Citrine would best be described as someone with an extremely low sense of self-worth, one that borders on nonexistent. She has often been treated as a tool rather than as a sentient individual, and came to accept that kind of judgment many centuries ago. Indeed, a large part of her wants people to view her as an expendable object, because that mentality is in line with her personal views. In the back of her mind, she can't help but believe that anyone who treats her kindly is deceiving her, while someone who treats her poorly at least has the decency to be honest.

Thinking nothing of herself, however, also means that Citrine is an incredibly selfless and giving person. She tries her best to remain cheerful (albeit not exactly confident) for the sake of those around her, never hesitating to lend her time, her company, or her power of fortune to anyone she likes. That generosity extends even to those that she has met recently... something that can get her into a lot of trouble if she doesn't have a friend around to help keep her naivete in check. This is, fortunately, abated a little bit due to her shyness; she is reluctant to approach strangers, but not so much that she can't talk to them if they feel compelled to greet her.

While she is amicable by default, it notably takes a lot of convincing for anyone to show Citrine that they actually care about her and value her for more than just her powers. There is no denying that any kind of positive attention or affection delights her, though; she just constantly doubts its validity when she isn't being swept up in the moment. Over the course of many, many years, however, the orange Gem has learned to effectively conceal her paranoid beliefs, so it's difficult for anyone to pick up on the fact that she has little faith in their true feelings. She really does want friends, though, and she wants to be able to believe that people who are kind to her really are her friends! It's just hard for her. Regardless, there is no denying that Citrine holds them very dear to her heart, and would do anything for her companions... a statement that becomes disturbingly true with regards to those she outright falls for, even if they don't reciprocate her feelings.

Abilities.

Regeneration: As is the case with all Gems, Citrine's body is a projection-- a physical, tangible 'hologram' emitted from the gemstone embedded at the base of her neck. If her body is damaged sufficiently, instead of dying, her consciousness will retreat into the gemstone to recover over a period of several hours to several days, depending on the intensity of the damage. She is helpless in this state, and can be "killed" if her gemstone is shattered. Should the gemstone persist long enough for her to heal, she will form a new body around it and be good as new.

Shapeshifting: Since Citrine's appearance is manually projected, she can change the form of it at will. She greatly prefers to keep her humanoid form, and typically only uses her shapeshifting powers when that form will not suffice for the task at hand. Any shape she takes will always have her gemstone embedded near its neck, and will adopt an orange and yellow color palette.

Fusion: Should another Gem agree to take part, Citrine can jointly perform a dance with them, fusing the two of them together into a single being. The resulting individual will invariably be larger and more powerful than either of its components, and possesses all of their abilities, as well as some new ones that are unique to the fusion itself. They will also have an amalgam of both participants' physical and personality traits, though fusions that are "in-sync" tend to develop personalities of their own and display a somewhat separate consciousness (rather than acting like two people stuck in the same body, which happens if the fusion is not as synchronized). The fusion has a new gemstone (and subsequently a new name) that blends the colors of both Gems together. The fusion can be broken willingly, when the two Gems fall "out of sync", or upon enduring severe damage; until one of these things occurs, it can persist indefinitely.

Citrine's Known Fusions: Amber [+ Jet], Sunstone [+ Morganite], Black Star Sapphire [+ Serendibite], Fire Agate [+ Zultanite], Orange Beryl [+ Jasper]... perhaps more to come?

Weapon Summoning: With focus, Citrine can draw her weapon out from within her gemstone. It manifests as a golden staff with a citrine crystal at the tip, around which a number of fragments hover, forming the shape of a star. It is not, unfortunately, very useful for fighting with. The most she really can do is bap someone on the head with it.

Probability Manipulation: Citrine's unique power gives her ludicrously good luck. This performs as one might expect luck to; attacks will miss her when they shouldn't, any game of chance will swing unfairly in her favor, and anything that could generally be perceived as 'good' in her mind is far more likely to occur than it otherwise might be. She can also use her staff to transfer any amount of her luck to another person, which she is often inclined to do instead of keeping it all for herself. The amount she has is fixed, and she must sacrifice an equal portion of her own luck; in essence, she "trades" it as though it were a physical object to be given. The fragments that hover around her staff will break formation and whirl around the target of Citrine's Gem power, then appear to phase into them; the number of fragments present atop her staff is a clear indicator of how lucky (or unlucky, as is often the case) she currently is.

Any preferences left unlisted can be inquired about freely. To give you a general idea, though, I left off a lot of the things I dislike, feel neutrally towards, or can't really roleplay on this character. Still, there's no harm in asking!

If you would rather play with a human version of this character that is completely unrelated to SU, see Citrine.

I drew everything on this page! If you happen like my art, there's more where that came from. All I ask is that you please do not steal it or redistribute it to other websites.

As Prey

Being PredBeing Prey Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike She really isn't the type who would hurt someone else, let alone eat them. Landing herself in horrible situations by foolishly giving away all her luck, on the other hand... now that's something she'd do!
Soft Vore Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike Overwhelmingly enjoyed and preferred; though I as a player do like hard vore, it isn't terribly applicable since Citrine will poof back into her gemstone if she takes too much physical damage.
Digestion Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike Rocks can't be digested, you say? What's the fun in that?! C'mon, show me what you're made of!
Fatality Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike Yeeeees. Crush her like the pebble she is!
Reforming Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike Or, alternatively, don't do that! She'll be all right in the end, so long as you don't shatter her gemstone.
Endo Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike If you really can't digest a rock, it's not like you have to spit it back up or anything. You could just, y'know. Keep it in your stomach forever! Yeah. That's a good idea. You should do that. (If she has to be let back out at some point, please note that I don't care for full tour.)
Oral Vore Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike Definitely the favorite. I'm not a humongous fan of anything else... except soul vore, but I don't really know how well that would work for this character.
Food Related Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike Serving her up like a lemony dessert, forcing her to share a stomach with mushed-up food, telling her that being someone's dinner is the best she can ever hope to achieve... fffff, yes please. This is never mandatory, but it is something I love incorporating when it fits!
Rough Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike Hey, it's okay to be mean! Even Citrine wants you to be a jerk to her!
Gentle Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike On the other hand, though, I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you were a little softer with her. Maybe there's a way to convince her that you really do care?
Sex Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike Gems don't reproduce sexually, so they technically don't even have the requisite parts, though I'm not opposed to Citrine having them so much as I'm disinterested in RPing sex. I might do it with a character I really love.
Pain Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike Even if Citrine can't endure truly excruciating pain without retreating into her gemstone... well, this is Cerulesta's roleplayer you're talking to. Take that for what you will.
Scat Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike No offense to those who enjoy this, but it is something I really, truly cannot do. I'd rather not even imply it, as even that makes me uncomfortable. I feel happier imagining that there's no waste left over when my poor character is digested, regardless of how biologically inaccurate that may be.
Bondage Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike Ehehehehe. Yes, please, tie her up if she wants to put up a fight! I am all over that.
Willing Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike She's often more okay with the prospect of being swallowed alive than one would expect, especially if someone she finds attractive is subjecting her to it. It's entirely possible to get Citrine to feed herself to the right person... which may be a sign that she's a little bit touched in the head.
Unwilling Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike It's not always sunshine and rainbows, though! She can't always get eaten by someone she likes, or in circumstances she likes, or at times she likes...
Micro/Macro Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike I love this, but I do recognize that making it work often requires some kind of shrinking ability, so it isn't always feasible. Even having the predator be twice Citrine's height counts as decently 'micro/macro' for me, though! The size difference doesn't have to be overwhelming.
Same Size Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike But I really like same size, too, so there shouldn't be too many issues even if your character isn't gigantic. Bellies are great, but I'm not super fond of the image of the predator's face stretching grotesquely to contain their prey; if you can refrain from mentioning that, it helps a lot.
Male Partner Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike While I actually prefer males most of the time, this character is slightly better suited for play with other ladies, since Gems typically present themselves as female. If you do have a male-presenting Gem, though, then that works just as well! Non-Gem characters are fine, too, even if I don't favor them quite as much while playing as Citrine specifically.
Female Partner Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike As previously stated, though, Citrine is intended to fall victim to other rocks, which usually means girls. And I'm totally happy with that! I love both genders. Incidentally, seeing as Gems are almost always female, Citrine is far more likely to find a female character physically attractive (and as a result, she's more likely to be willing prey for her, regardless of her species).
Verbose Posts Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike I am quite the chatterbox when I get going! I don't particularly enjoy brief posts, and mine tend to be fairly lengthy. As such, for any serious scenes, I definitely prefer a partner who can write at least a good paragraph or so.
Whisper Always/Love
+
--
Never/Dislike Please, feel free to message me any time! If I fail to reply to a whisper, I probably either got distracted or went AFK and missed your post somehow... sorry!
