Rena_Home

This isn't really an alt of ZergAlts as much as it is just a way for the player to keep track of certain story developments.

[PREEMPTIVE TL;DR]
In the canon story of my RPs, Rena Paola managed to get herself a house. It's a huge house, far too huge for Rena to keep all to herself, so she figured, "Hey, why not let other people come here? I've got this huge house, a butt-ton of money I don't even know the source of, and I'm a lesbian at that!"

So began Rena's search for women (or anyone else) who would want to inhabit the halls of her home. Accepts same-size and micros, but not really macros for obvious reasons. Depending on the situation your character's in, she might just invite you over to live here.

[THE FULL PROLOGUE]
“That’ll be $16.04.”

Inside her head, Rena partially scolded herself for splurging and buying the book she had been reading earlier. As far as she knew, she had no other money to work with, and she needed a place to stay at least for a little bit until she could at least rent an apartment. Having so few supplies on her person didn’t help much. “Here you go, ma’am. You have a nice day!” the young woman working the register said.

“You too,” Rena said out of habit.

She walked her newly purchased book to her bags underneath the coffee table and stuffed it into one of them, a dark blue and grey duffel. From that same bag, she pulled a medium-sized light blue umbrella before zipping it back up. Always be prepared.

The automatic doors of the bookstore opened up to the soft pattering of rain outside as Rena stepped onto the slick sidewalk. Her reflection was faintly visible beyond the falling rain on the concrete. Now for the most important thing. A place to stay. She looked both ways before crossing the empty road to the other side and turning to her left. She looked up at the grey sky, sighing and slowly walking along her path. Where is everyone?
For no particular reason, she recalled a certain few lines she had read somewhere…

There are many worlds, but they share the same sky—one sky, one destiny.

Considering her situation, Rena wasn’t sure how much of that she believed. But at least one thing held true: the sky looked just like it did back home. It held the same picturesque quality as the clouds she was used to seeing in the Florida skies. If it weren’t for the strange new people and beings she was now surrounded by, she would only suspect herself of a freak Appirition. Alternatively, I can pin my problems on Orguss, she thought to herself. Speaking of, I wonder what the odds are of actually finding Setsuko Ohara here?

She looked ahead to see a lone taxi driving down the road, in her direction. There were no other cars on the road, not even on the sides, which made its presence somewhat eerie. Yet, she waved it down anyway, hurriedly throwing her bags in and closing the umbrella as she entered the taxi. “Where’re you headed, miss?” the driver asked.

“Suburbs or the closest stop, please,” Rena said. Maybe I’ll get lucky and pull an amnesiac waif gambit on somebody.

“Sure thing.”

The taxi began to drive down the mysteriously empty street, passing buildings being soaked by the rain and a small number of pedestrians. Rena passively looked out the window, watching the sights go by silently as the rain continued to fall and entrance the snow woman. She was so hypnotized by the weather, in fact, that she hardly noticed at all when the buildings began to get much shorter, and there were more plants in sight. She snapped out of her trancelike state when the taxi began to slow to a stop, in front of an impressive two-story house with white flowers of some sort growing underneath one of the windows. “I think this is a good place to stop,” the driver said.

“Oh. Thank you,” she said, pulling some money out of her wallet.

Rena opened the door and stepped back out into the rain, opening her umbrella and taking her bags out of the taxi. She closed it and waved to the driver as he drove off into the darkness of the rainy evening. The street lamps had begun to turn on, illuminating the street below. The light reflected off of the slick sidewalk and street as well, making Rena’s reflection as she walked much clearer. She began to walk towards the house slowly as she formulated her plan, preparing what she would say to the owners. “Um… excuse me… can you give a cold and hungry girl a place to stay for a night or two?” Probably not. “Hi, I’m your third cousin, once removed!” Too cheesy.

A light hung from the overhang in front of the door, illuminating a small square of dry land. The door was a dark green, with two long, slender, “frosted” windows and a mail slot. Within the mail slot, it appeared that a letter hadn’t fully made its way into the house. Against her better judgment, Rena reached for the letter and plucked it from the slot, turning it over to look for an address box. Nothing. There were only two words on the front of the envelope: “For Mika”. Rena looked around and behind her, hoping that no one was watching her as she slipped a finger underneath the flap of the envelope and slowly tore it open, taking out the paper within and unfolding it.

For my dear Mika,

If you’re reading this letter, you’ve probably been instructed to my old house. In that case, you can only assume the worst has happened to me. Whatever may have happened, know that I wanted you to have one last thing from me to show that I still love you even after all these years apart, even if I couldn’t be there to show you around. It may not be to your liking. You could probably abandon or sell the house, but at least know that I cared about you to give you one last thing before I died.

I know things have gotten complicated since we discovered that coven of nagas at the nightclub, which is part of the reason why I’m leaving my house to you. They don’t know where I live, because compared to you, I was nobody. At least you can live in safety until they forget you, and if you survive, it’ll be worth it. I ask that you remember me, though… remember me fondly and never forget your childhood friend.

Love,

The letter stopped there, with a scraggly black line going down to the end of the page where the writer’s name should have been. Rena turned the paper around only to find a pair of pink panties on the ground, scrunched up and appearing slightly damp. It was in a corner against the door and the wall, most likely ruling out the possibility that the rain did that. Her face turned blue with a sick realization as she looked down at the discarded garment. “Was that… Mika’s?” she asked as she bent down closer.

Forming a long, slender twig of ice in her hands, Rena poked at the panties lightly at first, hoping nothing was hiding underneath. She then turned them over, lifting them up to reveal that they had been hiding something: a set of three identical keys on a key ring. Tentatively with the ice twig, Rena picked them up, continuing to look around her for anything moving in the shadows. Her face only turned a deeper shade of blue as she looked down at the keys in her left hand, putting her right over her mouth in horror. She gulped as she looked around once more, taking one of the keys and sliding it into the lock, turning it and keeping her back to the door. She took her bags in her hands and turned the knob gently. The door opened with a slight creaking to darkness. Vague, inanimate shadows lurked about as she stepped in, closing the door behind her and forming an ice knife in her left hand while the right moved across the wall, looking for a light switch. The lights flickered on to reveal a beautiful home before her, contemporary yet lavish. A circular couch sat in what Rena could describe as a pit, half-surrounding a coffee table and facing a sizable flat screen television, with an assortment of gaming consoles and audio equipment throughout. The kitchen behind it was furnished with shining cooking utensils and an assortment of cookers, as well as a flat top stove and a massive dishwasher. “Wow…” Rena breathed as she walked around, coming to the redwood dining table in front of sliding glass doors to the outside. “The owner was supposed to be ‘nobody’?”

She turned and found a staircase leading up, climbing them and taking in the sights. One thing that struck her as odd was the lack of pictures… no family photos of any kind of the previous or intended owners. There were no pegs or nails in the wall where pictures would be hanging either, making it even stranger. As Rena reached the top of the staircase, she was greeted by a hallway with a window at the end. Four doors on either side, with the third on the right bearing a sign saying “bathroom” on it. Rena decided to walk up to the furthest door on the left, tentatively opening the door and peering inside. It was a fairly large room, with a nice bed to the right of the entrance, a computer and workspace in the far left corner of the room, and what looked like an empty display case of sorts directly to the right of the bed. The large window to the outside was covered by elegant curtains and the rain could be heard gently pattering against the roof. “Survey says this is the master,” she said as she walked in, closing the door behind her and setting her bags at the foot of the bed. “Well… haaah… may as well take advantage of it.”

Rena yawned as she kicked off her shoes and her pants, leaving her with bare legs and wearing only her t-shirt and panties to speak of. She laid herself on the bed and pulled the deep blue blanket over her, sighing at how everything felt so soft to the touch. “What a nice house… I can’t believe that Mika girl never got to it,” she muttered to herself as she let her eyes close. “I guess that calls me a squatter until she gets back… if she gets back.”

She gently closed her eyes and let the sound of the rain lull her to sleep, safe and warm.
