Catrine

tl;dr (ish): Citrine, but cat. born the runt of six kittens, she was fated from infancy to compete fruitlessly with her stronger, healthier siblings for their mother's attention. her particular breed of catfolk are not especially open-minded or accepting of flaws when compared to other races; they are largely wild, and respect is something that must be earned through power, guile, and competence. poor Citrine was blessed with none of those traits. with five other children to attend to and virtually no energy left to spare, Citrine's mother eventually chose to simply abandon her frail daughter to the cruelty of the wilderness-- a harsh decision, undoubtedly, but also a necessary one. among the catfolk, such tragic cases were not at all uncommon.

Citrine was left behind without ceremony or remorse, simply finding herself alone when she woke one winter morning. it became clear to her quite immediately that she'd been forgotten, but the morose catgirl simply grit her teeth and accepted it. never once in her sorry existence had she ever been wanted-- be it by her mother, her siblings, or anyone she'd met along the way. up until this painful moment, she'd been unable to even exist without paling in comparison to others. on her own, she could finally be liberated from those heavy, cumbersome shackles... but where was someone like her supposed to go in a world this unforgiving? did she even have a place here to begin with, or was her birth itself nothing more than an unfortunate mishap? unable to answer those questions, Citrine has persisted without drive or purpose, eventually finding her way into civilized society. there, at least, she might not be shunned for her weakness... but the modern world is still callous and frightening, and Citrine struggles daily to find somewhere she finally belongs.
