Roughly 3 feet long and 4 feet tall, Void stalkers are creatures from the "Abyss" between worlds that feed on magic. They travel around by hopping from one place to the next, easily leaping 40 yards in a single jump. Predatory by nature, they will actively hunt for enchanted objects, spells, or magic users to feed on. The creatures themselves are 'mundane' except for their ability to 'hear' magic and life force, allowing them to be deadly predators despite the lack of eyes.
Living quite happily in the "Abyss", these beasts are commonly found in pairs. Each pair contains one male and female, hatched from the same clutch of eggs. As they grow older, the pair quickly starts to depend on each other, eventually to the point that if one goes missing or is killed, it's 'partner' will either simply stop doing anything, or with proper action, 'bond' with a new creature, sometimes outside of it's species. At this point the 're-bonded' Void stalker will follow and help it's partner until it dies.
It's hard to tell how intelligent these creatures are. While they have been shown understanding speech or intentions from their 'partners', they tend to ignore or hunt anything else, and show no sign of caring or ordering the other one around.
Their eating habits appear at first glance to be the same as any other species, "food goes in beak, waste out the end," But they actually have an extra organ in their system that allows them to filter out magic and store it. This feature also makes them an important ingredient in some spells, either for increasing or restoring magic power. This also is considered a delicacy amongst most other magic eating species, and usually keeps them avoiding the Nulls, a more humanoid species found in the same 'abyss'.
