Squib wasn't always as happy and respected as he currently is; in his natural form, he was often bullied by other squids for being a runt and a poor hunter. Because of this, he was typically very meek, sad, and extremely lonely. He frequently tried to pray to the local goddess for assistance; for someone to love and care for him. His prayers seemed to always fall upon deaf ears.

Finally fed up with the abuse and cruel behaviour of his peers, Squib decided it was time for him to move on from his home and current life in search of one without all of these painful memories of rejection and hurt. He never knew how hard it would be completely on his own; before, he at least had the help of his parents to ensure he got enough to eat and that he was safe from potential predators...

He stumbled upon what seemed to be a deserted building under the water. It seemed like it was so old due to its horrid condition and he was curious to see what was in it, if anything. That was when he discovered the shrine of Kamidere. This was before she moved over to the oriental nations for worship; she was growing weak from a great loss of faith from the Greeks and as such had lost most of her vassals. Squib took pity on the giant dragon and tried his hardest to hunt something down for her to eat.

It seemed this gesture worked wonders for her because almost immediately, the area of the shrine began to look cleaner; the water around the area fresher, and the withered dragoness looked much stronger. Though the offering he made to this sea dragon was meagre compared to her massive size, she was extremely grateful and thanked him graciously. She asked him to stay with her; she would protect him and he would devote himself to her. Squib agreed; the lavish building seemed like a fun (not to mention extremely safe) place to stay.

He's been with her ever since, from the move to the Orient, through the transfer to her new, more humanoid body... That was when she blessed him with his own humanoid form. She became like a mother to him. He loved her, and continues to love her to this day, doing all he can to make her stronger and keep her happy.
