Bio |
Maids at Maru's aren't supposed to mention boyfriends, if they have them. It's not a strict ban — the maids aren't idols (though some wish they were) — but it's not good for a business model dependent on parasocial relationships. Likewise, those who do have secret off-work relationships don't generally share details of their employment with their partners — and for good reason! Most guys wouldn't be enthused to learn their sweetheart spends the day in a suggestive costume flirting with guests who get to do whatever they want. But in Shirei's case, those unspoken rules might have needed to be spoken. She won't stop talking about her boyfriend, both to coworkers and to guests. What's more, not only does he know about her job, he's a regular customer! Sometimes it can feel like Shirei only ever serves him: whenever he arrives, she drops whatever she's doing and runs over to dote on him until closing. Fortunately, most people don't seem to mind. There's something endearing about puppy love on display, and while her singleminded service sometimes frustrates her coworkers, it's hard to stay mad when she's so clearly happy. Less clear is just what her boyfriend gets out of it. Shirei is no help. Ask her, and all she'll talk about is how cute and sweet and funny and romantic he is. But his devoted attendance can't be reasonably explained by love of maids, or even by a love of Shirei. It's more like he doesn't want to miss something. It's probably just coincidence that he only teases Shirei to "get back to work, or you'll get in trouble!" when the cafe has particularly predatory customers. |

Fate |
A boy can only endure so much lovey-dovey catgirl gushing, and in the end, Shirei's beloved boyfriend couldn't wait any longer for his overbearing girlfriend to end up on the menu. So he turned to the city's seedy underbelly, hiring the fearsome Giso to polish her off while he watched. The catgirl was far too innocent for her world. Believing he was poised to propose, she followed the treacherous boy gladly into the back alleys of Marunomia, only to find the orca-hybrid waiting. The predator did as she had been asked, and Shirei was consigned to die...after learning of her betrayal. The boy might have walked away satisfied, but he enjoyed himself a little too much — and even Giso couldn't bring herself to let such a creep walk free. So she took it upon herself to reunite the crossed lovers in her powerful belly, and help them both to break up for good. Literally. Even despite his betrayal, Shirei couldn't stop loving the boy that had served her up as food. She died begging to hear "I love you" back, a wish she would never hear granted. One wish came true, though: she and her boyfriend did end up together. At least, until their remains went through sewage treatment. |
