Riju is the young chieftain of the Gerudo people, having been thrust into this position of leadership following her mother's tragic and unexpected death. Despite the concerns of her people regarding her competence as a ruler, Riju maintains a calm and even slightly-smug demeanor most of the time. In moments of weakness, she tends to seek out her body guard, Buliara, or her pet sand seal, Patricia.

As fate would have it, Riju's ascension occured during a time of great hardship and strife. The population of Moldugas, massive sand worms, has seen a sudden spike. Common monsters such as the scaly Lizalfos have become more tenacious in recent times. The treacherous ninjas of the Yiga clan plague the only canyon pass out of the desert, stifling trade. And to top it all off, a massive mechanical beast roams the desert. The divine beast's motives are unclear, but every day it strays ever closer to all-female Gerudo Town...

Fortunately Riju is a bright young lass, with a keen understanding of how to quell the fears of the populace with her words and actions both. She's notably more pragmatic than the traditional Gerudo, able to eschew pride to accept help from outsiders when necessary. In fact, it could perhaps be said that she's simply too trusting of strangers, being desparate for a solution to the myriad woes of her people.

Secretly, Riju harbors a softer side with a love for cute and cuddly things. She is, after all, only a teenager. She collects stuffed sand seals in her royal bedroom, and even has a few cute costumes resembling them, remnants of a childhood cut short.
