"Are you familiar with the world because you travel, or because others have given their experiences to you? Innovation is never realized through stagnation.." - Norrin Xel
Norrin Xel was created to a world held in the throes of magical influence, a conflicted place where ideologies clashed and progress came to a grinding halt. Having never experienced a day of his life without being caught up in the turmoil that threatened to consume his world, Norrin decided to take matters into his own hands as opposed to sitting on the sidelines and watching as his worlds' potential was squandered thanks to conflicting factions who all sought their own measures of power to ensure their longevity. Magic was intrinsic to his society, and he was never an exception to that rule, even if his methods were revolutionary in the face of traditional study. Most magicians focused their power over harnessing the elements around them, especially the natural elements. Earth, Fire, Water, Air.. All powerful tools, but all could be controlled, given the proper technology. And so, Norrin became the first Urbanomancer, Mastering the arts of Creation itself to further the name of progress and innovation. Whereas a druid can summon forth a tree from a seed, Norrin could create towering skyscrapers whose tops disappeared into the clouded skies from a single pebble. Given enough time and the proper conditions, any element could become another, and his magic uses this principle to whole new levels of power. He can
almost create matter from nothing, at least in the sense that what he requires can be the smallest sample of material in order to create something so much further advanced upon the periodic table. Given enough time, he can even force air molecules into more solid, heavier elements; giving him the tools he needs to ply his trade in any environment where he could live. And so, he sought to abolish the natural order upon his planet, covering the entire planets' face in a bustling metropolis that merely required citizens to populate. This process took several years, but eventually every last bastion of natural growth had been eradicated in the face of technological advancement. This caused.. more than a few problems for the Infamous Urbanomancer, and the sequence of events that followed resulted in more than few life-altering situations for this unique version of a Hero..
Without plant life to create oxygen upon his planet, many species began to die off as those who remained consumed one another for nourishment. Air became a commodity, and while he could create amazing things from nearly nothing, he could not create matter from literally nothing at all. It soon became apparent that his skills, while ending the conflict upon his planet, were also the source of the planets' new crisis. The people revolted, their old hatreds forgotten in the face of their unified hatred for the cause of their planets' eventual destruction, Norrin Xel. They sought to destroy him, and end his works upon their world, and so he would flee.. paying a handsome sum to a neutral mage who specialized in portals. While he had assumed the mages' interest to be only greed, for the price he paid was handsome indeed; he couldn't know that the mage had also felt the uprisings effects upon Norrins' future as well. And so, the mage opened a portal to a distant world, one wherein the Urbanomancer would never be found. Once he'd stepped through the portal, he knew he had a chance for a new life; for he'd arrived in a growing metropolis known as the Nexus. A hub for innovation through some very unique means, he had finally found a place wherein his studies could be held in a measure of esteem once more. He knew plying his trades full potential would be doom for this new world, and so he kept himself in check by taking up a very new hobby, at least for him.. the Innovation of Experience, as opposed to the expansion of scientific potential.
He already knew what could come from the elements presented to him, but one thing he could never predict was what people did with what was presented to Them. Since his arrival, several individuals he'd met had regaled him with stories of the hobbies of the locals, which extended from magical expansion to self gratification; things he could understand but never predict in the methods of study the locals presented. Some attempted to expand their power by consuming others, while others contented themselves to letting powerful denizens come to them; some to never be seen again. Norrin could not be swayed, however, with such temptations.. for they always kept him from his true joy, exploration of what the Universe had hidden from his analytical mind. By day, he spent the majority of his time within libraries and other centers for academic study; ever searching for new mysteries to explore. By night, he roamed the city he now called home, meeting those he could who might expand his understanding of how society functioned in this new world. Days turned into months, and while he had learned much of this new world, he was convinced more could be found by picking the minds of those who lived here. Only so much could be learned from the limited records he could find, for the entire history of this place could not be fathomed through tomes alone; and so he would attempt to experience as much of this world for himself.
One almost exclusively finds him somewhere within the city itself, for he avoids nature almost as if it harmed his sensibilities to be within a place so controlled by chaos itself. Within an urban environment, he felt at home and alive, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the populous ever marching further along their various paths of life; and he would learn what he could of them before their sparks faded into the annals of history.

Making Sense of him:
It's mentioned that he was created, and indeed his entire race can make that claim. On his world, new beings were created from the combined donations of parents, but not in the tradition sense. Sex was something done for fun, not procreation; for that left too much to chance for his analytical species. They had, since their first dabblings into magic, found a way to take a tiny portion of a matching pair, and force them together to form an entirely new and perfectly sculpted adult. Children did not exist on his home, and as such he finds them absolutely fascinating when he finds them here. When a new individual was created, they were born as an adult; never as a newborn babe who couldn't contribute to the society as a whole. This cut out much of the development of a mind that might be hung upon issues of upbringing, and allowed his entire race to focus on their individual crafts as opposed to dealing with the pains of growing up, or indeed growing old. As long as magic coursed through their veins, time could not touch them. The only thing that ended the life of one of his kind, was purposeful extermination. As such, most of his kind also secured various means of returning to their former glory should such things be attempted, and Norrin is no exception to this concept either.
So why the hockey stick? Rather simple, natural growth was something he avoided, but his magic was always better manifested through a talisman; and so he decided to make a small exception to his rule. He found a piece of treated, and sculpted wood; which just so happened to be a hockey stick, and inscribed his personal runes upon it. You could view it as his staff, for every magic user had one, but he uses it for far more than simply channeling his spells.
How about the skull? It is another talisman he carries with him, inscribed with various runes he could activate with a simple touch; or more commonly by his staffs' contact. He had heard so many claim he appeared as a hockey player, that he learned what they had meant. And so, he decided that if they should assign him that role, he needed a puck. It's not uncommon to see him launch that skull towards a foe, only for it to explode in a gigantic ball of fire upon contact. It did always reappear upon his person, though, a testament to his ability to create astounding things from the tiniest sliver of material.
