Story

Brief summary: A narrow gauge rail company based in Colorado. Been around since the end of the American Civil war. Was a big copper and steel supplier for America during both world wars. The owner is determined to end the oppression monsters face.

Major Derailment and Company was founded in July of 1865, while America was still recovering from the civil war. They have remained in business all the way through to today, and they're still going strong. But the history starts much earlier, over 100 years earlier.
For a long time, their was a lot of uneasy tension between humans and monsters. Most of it was because of humans getting angry about the monsters that would prey on humans, and then the monsters getting angry about threats from the humans as a result. They tried to make peace with humans so they could integrate with human society, but it didn't work out. Then suddenly in the 1820s, Humans got tired of this. They didn't want to view monsters as equals, so they went out of their way to kill any and all monsters they saw. Any survivors went into hiding deep within the Rocky Mountains for safety. And it wasn't until 65 years later that MD&C happened across their hiding places, and they greeted monsters with open arms. They were kept secret from the outside world to maintain their safety, and the owner of MD&C made efforts to find a place where they could be safe forever. She hasn't been completely successful yet, even after almost 140 years.
The owner of the company, Heisler, has a good history with monsters and felt they weren't as bad as everyone makes them seem. So she offered them jobs, food, and shelter, treating them like normal members of society. Not all of the company's employees were completely onboard with this, humans and monsters alike. Tanya_Kirk was one of them. Most humans who disagreed were quickly fired or left, and some were "dealt with" to prevent them from exposing the inside of the entire company. The monsters who disagreed went off into the mountains, most never to be seen again. Tanya is one of the few that remained, feeding on humans foolish enough to go hunting for her. This lasted for about 40 years, before the human and monsters integration started to fall apart. There aren't very many monsters working for MD&C now, as most of them left or died from old age. Heisler still cares deeply about the company and the well being of its employees, whether human or monster, and she is determined to end the oppression monsters face.
