Lazarus_Soldiers

Background:

In a galaxy on the verge of expansion across time and space, a galactic Federation known as the AWF (Andromeda-Way Federation) spanning nine worlds started The Regen Project that became known to the public as the Lazarus project. Its goal was to create more effective, self-replenishing, mass-produced superbeings with a fraction of the federation’s founders', the Tuath Dé, powers as well as other worlds. Who were Eldritch beings akin to gods who took pity about the denizens of the nine worlds as others from other realms like their brethren, the Fomoire, caused chaos in their wake.

The Federation would use all means to ensure the success of the project, from legal to outright secretive immoral nature. The researchers used the technologies, flesh, powers and magic from many realities they had and implanted them into the “candidates”, thus the first of the Lazarus were born.

The Lazarus would prove to be a success, though they were not truly immortal as many assumed they were. Their various processes of resurrection even though allowed them to usually escape death, there were still many ways to permanently kill these beings due to limitations of these processes.

The AWF grew beyond its two galaxies and expanding into others and other realities. Its prosperity became fabled among those outside, with denizens long-lived and able to overcome the traditional woes of other societies through their long-lived knowledge and experience. The shining society, however, while at its apex slowly started to rot from the cracks within.

With their newfound desire and sense that their way would bring a better and greater future to the universe if not the multiverse, the societies of AWF slowly began a decline and shift. The first sign was when the questionable and secretive practices of how the Lazarus were being made were brought to light, the many denizens simply excused the practices such as kidnapping and enslavement as necessary. Unrest grew as many problems meant to be dealt with still remained, and the practices only grew in scale to the likes of crafting new species on planets to be harvested for a later date for the Lazarus and other purposes.

The civil unrest reached its zenith as all the foes of the AWF were gone. With no great threat to focus on, all the denizens of the federation could only focus on within as the ever-worsening class system and clashes between races, species and factions escalated into more unrestrained conflict. Most of the Tuath Dé became corrupt, unstable, and petty gods who toyed with the people, especially those of the Lazarus who named their cruel masters in secret the Fomoire. Many ordinary denizens and the Lazarus themselves were themselves partaking in many questionable actions as some struggled to survive or take advantage from the growing chaos.

Eventually the AWF collapsed into a several dozen years of civil wars that consumed and tore apart the Federation as many factions fought each other to establish their ideologies and organisations. Some wanting to reform the Federation for the better, some to excavate those from the conflict, some to become the new rulers of the Federation, and others to simple destroy it all and live in anarchy.

Several galaxies had many sectors ruined and devoid of life, as whole planets were ruined from drowned in decaying fluids from mountains of rotting carcasses to worlds cracked and burnt to ashen wastes.

At the AWF Civil Wars ended, only a relatively few AWF denizens like the Lazarus remain. All scattered and spread throughout the new multiverse.
