Khezu-based monster! Fun times. Fuuuun times.
The Khedras is an interesting evolution/adaptation of the Khezu. It still looks mostly the same, but it has adapted to many, many more environments. Most commonly found in old forests with trees tall enough and strong enough to support its weight, it is primarily an ambush predator. Using the massive number of chromatophores in its skin to camouflage itself, while it dangles from a sturdy branch or trunk, it waits for a small enough animal to wander beneath for it to feed upon, typically dropping onto or near the creature and snapping it up in its maw, gulping it down whole.
Instead of wings, as the Khezu has, the Khedras sports a large number of slender, strong tentacles on it's back. It typically uses these as hands, after a fashion, or to dangle from its chosen perch. The tips are incredibly sensitive, letting it get a good idea what something looks like by feeling it. Each tip sports a tiny orifice, as well, which it can use to secrete an epoxy-like substance, that it uses to coat food it wants to preserve for later. Khedras saliva is the only substance that can melt this resin.
As well, the Khedras has teeth like it's cousin. Unlike its cousin, though, its teeth are typically sheathed in soft flesh. It only uses them to saw out chunks of a big meal, typically a fallen, larger creature. Khedras are typically scavengers, feeding on whatever won't resist enough to get away. Dead animals, fish, fruit, plants... people. Anything it can eat is food, or a host.
The beast doesn't have eyes, really. It sees through a complex sense of smell and a system of echolocation, and learns what something 'looks' like via its tentacles. However, it is NOT a harmless, clumsy predator. It's surprisingly swift and graceful, though, ironically, in its chosen habitat its easier to avoid than it would be in an open field.
Now.... Khedras are a rather interesting species, in some respects. Their system of reproduction is rather odd, and of some interest to humans. They are egg-layers, after a fashion, but their eggs are most like an amphibian's, smooth and gel-ish. The eggs are, in fact, not laid at all... but rather 'retrieved' by the bull khedras, which sports a long, prehensile cock. Once inside, they are fertilized, and the bull seeks out a suitable host.... and Khedras seem to prefer humans or humanoid hosts for this task, often consuming their prey with their member. Once inside, the host is subjected to a number of tendrils, and held immobile as it is filled with eggs. Then, it is held for one to three days, and released as the eggs start to hatch.
Interestingly, this is not harmful to the host. Merely inconvenient... and often enjoyable, as well. Khedras cum is a potent aphrodesiac, and a sensory enhancer, making the skin of the host tingle where coated. It's a highly prized substance, in some areas of the world, and many wealthy people keep 'tame' Khedras. The beasts are remarkably intelligent, about on the same level as a gorilla. They can be trained to eat (and 'eat') their owners, and spit them out, and many enjoy having company within the beast's sac. Male Khedras can sell for their weight in gold! Or more, if they're young. Their skin is quite sensitive, and electricity is, in fact, quite pleasurable for them, typically used as a reward for doing well. Tales abound of some khedras learning to communicate, even, with their owners. The beasts are quite loyal, and brave, only driving their value up. As well as the laundry bill, mind you.
Oh, and they can grow up to fifty feet long, and fifteen or so tall.
