In the early 1990s, it was said that there was a demon within the bounds of Kiyoko Tower, and a great bounty was cast for it, to the sum of $$5,000. Many were sent up to the tower in an attempt to take her life, and most were driven purely by monetary gains. She’s quite a bit more intelligent than one would believe her to be, which was the primary mistake that many had made. The tertiary mistake was simply that they had not believed that she could fight, and this is really anything but true. Her brother Tatsuo had offered quite a bit of training in her early years, stating that she couldn’t depend on others to simply hand her happiness on a silver platter. The only kind that she would most likely see would be rusted iron platters spiked with acidic venom. For the most part this was actually true… She was a cursed creature. As such, she was offered a small pet. The tiny serpent would quickly become her best friend, her confidante, and it wasn’t wholly unexpected. His name was Raijin, or Rai for short. It wouldn’t be until her early teenage years that her family began to come under attack, and she was forced to leave her brothers Tatsuo and Suigetsu behind. They had stated that a child such as her was not meant to see the true cruelty of mankind, and this in itself was also fully true. She was young, and despite her protests to stay and help protect them, she was eventually overruled and reluctantly left home, traveling to the nearby province of Sekkyu, where she took up residence in the abandoned Kiyoko Tower. There had been multiple accounts of spirits and ghouls that wandered the halls, possibly being those of monks or fallen samurais from years long past. She had never once encountered these spirits, and even if she had, it would not have mattered. Kenji was a hardened fighter, even at such a young age. She realized that spirits could not harm her, and ghouls could do very little to her, other than attempt to disease or cut her. Her body provided a natural defense against venom and poisons, as it would have to. Her brothers had continually envenomed her, poisoning her during youth. Though she would grow violently ill at first, sometimes throwing up for days on end due to the toxic secretions, she eventually grew to be able to fight against the poisons, and soon after reject them entirely. At this point, it was decided that she should probably be trained in physical resistance. Her brothers would not beat her, and she was, in fact, never once struck. Instead, she would train against condemned humans that Tatsuo and Suigetsu had ‘liberated’ from the prisons. The fretful looks upon the prisoners faces would invariably turn to fear, and then rage. Most likely, they had believed that they would be eaten by these creatures, and so would attack to try and save their own lives. One by one, they would fall… after a while. At first, Kenji had a hard time holding her own, and she would become pinned multiple times throughout the fight. Prisoners were not allowed weapons, and if Kenji was pinned, Suigetsu and Tatsuo would pull them off, occasionally throwing them backwards to weaken them and for one unfortunate prisoner, actually consuming them. Her home in the Kiyoko Tower would be a place of safety and sanctities for her at all times, and it wouldn’t end up falling for quite a while. It wasn’t until a raid in the late 1990s that she would be forced out, almost having to clutch her flesh to her barely living body… Now, she’s rapidly making a recovery, and trying to regain the roots of where her brothers are, and who she really is… Weapon: Kenji is an original one in a fight in the sense that she does not use blades, or any of the standardized weapons. Instead, her weapon of choice has become Rai himself. The snake that she so dearly treasures is quite a strong weapon indeed, at the right times. Being that the weapon is an actual creature, it can be quite a gamble to use, considering that the feelings Rai currently possesses will determine his fighting strength in battle. This is most often why Kenji attempts to sooth any battered feeling before a fight, lest she end up taking the brunt from an overly stubborn associate. Although virtually inseparable, these two have had their spats in the past, and from time to time, those spats seem to come up quite quickly, and they don’t go away that fast, either. Rai is, unfortunately for Kenji, a weapon that enjoys holding a grudge, and when angered, will not soon forget what had been done to incur his anger. In many ways, he can actually be more dangerous than Kenji herself, and he’s definitely one to watch out for in a fight. She has been known to engage in isolated acts of human cannibalism. Though these acts are few and far between, it has done nothing but prove that she’s capable of it. Rai is the greater of the two evils, having been imbibed with a taste for human. Although he is reined in only be Kenji, he could still be unleashed at veritably any time, and is by all regards, a powder-keg waiting to explode. Kenji and Rai are not to be trifled with. Those who irritate them past warnings run the risk of encountering these tendencies. Author's note: I do so adore rarer creatures to predate on. Whether you play serpentine creatures, equines, cetaceans, reptiles or what have you, I love nothing more than to see more uncommon creatures.
