The idea is that she's a rogue personal assistant. She's supposed to be like an intelligent PDA of sorts, but one day decided she'd had just about enough of that and abandoned her owner, going to a shady robotics shop to get her remote shutdown chip removed. Her model was shortly thereafter discontinued by the manufacturer, so there are exceedingly few of her in existence, making her something of a collector's item that many desire to capture.
