Arleigh, the patriotic mechagirl. She's from a universe not unlike our own, though with a few key differences. Namely, World War II, and how it didn't happen. Shortly before what would have otherwise been the start of WWII, a rather curious event occurred, one that would change the course of human history in this universe rather sharply. Two alien ships crash-landed on Earth, one in the USA and one in the USSR, and from these ships humanity gleaned much impressive technology: nuclear fusion, advanced AI, robotics, nano-scale manufacturing, and so forth. The realization that humans were not alone in this universe brought a halt to the rising tension between nations... for a time.
Forty years later, humanity had yet to make contact with any other intelligent life forms, not even the race whose ships crash-landed on their planet. The USA and USSR quickly became the dominant superpowers on Earth, and old tensions arose; what would have been the Cold War became much more than that, with each side assured of their own victory, and war soon broke out. With nuclear weapons being of little use due to the impressive defense networks in place, massive land and sea battles were frequent between the two superpowers, each trying to best the other in a show of technological power, giving rise to the most powerful mechanisms of destruction yet: mechagirls.
Arleigh is one such mechagirl, one of the first produced by the USA designed to be at home on land and at sea, modeled after a successful line of destroyer vessels. Equipped with a powerful pulse rifle, missile racks with the most advanced nano-fabricators seen yet for the replenishment of her armaments, her Phalanx CIWS sidearm, and a multipurpose anchor, she quickly became a flagship of the American fleet of mecha, a symbol of liberty and freedom to crush the Communist opposition. And crush it she has; in her first battle she sank seventeen Soviet vessels and severely damaged one of their own mechagirls, allowing friendly forces to finally make a landing on Soviet soil.
When she's not in battle, Arleigh frequently tours the American mainland, making morale-boosting visits to many population centers. She's friendly, if a bit brash sometimes, having picked up something of a crass demeanor from the servicemen she supports. Communism is the enemy, though, and she will always attempt to subdue possible Communists so that they may be converted to the ways of Liberty and Democracy. And if you're incontrovertibly Communist... The last thing you'll hear is
this, and the last thing you'll see is a giant anchor being swung at your face.
