tl;dr (but not really, lol): a girl born into a life of disappointment and misfortune. her mother, who had a particular lust and fascination for Pokémon morphs, married one with the hope that their child would inherit some aspects of her father's species. unfortunately, luck was not in her favor; her newborn daughter Hope ended up exhibiting no Pokémon traits whatsoever, something that ended up ushering in a lifetime of frustration for the poor child. raised alongside her younger brother, who was blessed to be born a hybrid just like their mother had wanted, Hope faced a great deal of neglect. the household's stalwart belief that Pokémon were something to be envied and adored quickly led to her developing a crushing inferiority complex, which itself gradually warped and intensified until it eventually manifested something even more complicated: the overwhelming desire to be a Pokémon, to forsake the perceived 'burden' of her species. in her youth, Hope spent most of her time out of the house to avoid her abusive mother-- and it was during one of those outings that she eventually encountered the trainer Alathea, becoming fast friends with her and her Metagross, whom she could communicate with through its telepathic abilities. the Pokémon left a vivid and positive impression on her, but her parents soon forbade her from interacting with Trainers like Alathea, viewing them as dangerous threats to the well-being of Pokémorphs everywhere... a common opinion in Oasah, whose population is dominated by them.

deprived of her new companions, she found some solace in Xaviere, a neighbor boy whose life was similarly fraught with depression and strife. he was one of many in their hometown of Askara who had been tampered with by the area's newly-established Team Equilibrium faction. and though Hope was undoubtedly horrified by the atrocities the team committed, their presence also invited an opportunity she simply couldn't afford to pass up. a meeting with the cunning scientist Xyr confirmed her suspicions: that Team Equilibrium, with their mastery of genetic manipulation, had the power to make her dreams come true. without telling anyone her intentions, Hope volunteered herself for an incredibly risky and experimental procedure, spending months honing and strengthening her body to increase her chances of surviving it... all to change her into the closest approximation of a Pokémon that any human could reasonably expect to become. the operation, while agonizing and traumatic in its own right, proved successful-- and thus 'Anvil' was born, the new name with which she proudly christened her new and better self.

if only everyone else saw it that way, too.

as it turned out, not everyone was immediately accepting of what Anvil had done. the procedure involved sacrificing the entire lower half of her body so that she could be fitted with the massive mechanical legs her new species needed, and that drastic and gruesome decision gave her loved ones great cause to worry for both her physical and mental health. even her mother, who had forever wished that she be born a Pokémon, was mortified by her child's drastic transformation. Xaviere, while still very supportive of her goals, was nevertheless personally wounded by her assocation with the organization that had harmed him in the still-recent past. but what was done was done, and there could be no going back. she was now wholly indebted to Team Equilibrium... and Xyr intended to take full advantage of her newly-obtained strength.
