Zombies_

Maddie, being the sci-fi fan that she is, went around a graveyard one night and began reanimating corpses. And while she was hoping for an army of the undead, her expectations lowered quickly.

Turns out zombies aren't much of a threat. They move slowly, their motor skills and ability to reason are shot to hell, and even in large numbers fighting them off isn't that difficult. And, most irritatingly for Maddie, they don't take orders. They're not rebellious, they just don't know how. And so they went shambling off in all directions, starving and hungry, and Maddie just kinda forgot about them.

In big enough numbers, though, zombies can be overwhelming, and most wandered off in crowds, building their numbers gradually. It's a real one-step-forward, two-steps-back process, but it's been working out nicely for them, and they've refused to completely die out.

They also have the advantage of being a bit hive-minded, and occasionally the musty old cogs in their brain turn just enough to allow them to figure out things like ducking and climbing.
