Yolei_Shar

((YOLEI IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE VIA THE PORTAL. IF YOU NEED TO GET IN TOUCH WITH ME FOR ANY REASON, YOU CAN FIND ME HERE))

A gnoll, roughly 7 to 7 1/2 ft. tall. She is female, but typically wears armor that conceals any noticeably feminine aspects of her form and so will forgive anyone that guesses her gender wrong the first time. Her fur is a dark brownish color, typical of gnolls, but unlike most of her kind, she has her fur cut short and keeps herself well groomed.

Apart from that, the only real inaccuracy between that and the profile picture is the facial expression. Unlike most gnolls, Yolei Shar is not prone to random acts of violence, having been born and raised in a true community. The gnolls from which Yolei is descended cast aside their differences with humanity centuries ago in the face of a common foe, a war which is still presumably raging in her homeland to this day.

The common foe was the undead. Her world is absolutely infested with them, evident by her constant insistence that "the living look after each other." The only other thing one might deduct about her world without her telling them is that the sun never shines there. She is prone to staring at stars, clouds, or even a sky that is any color except for pitch black, and frequently wonders out loud if she is dreaming or not.

Yolei is seldom without her lightweight halberd and is a fighter of some skill, but by her home world's standards, she is better suited to other tasks. Her real value is as a blacksmith; the secrets of Mithril and Orichalcum were passed down to her from her mentors, and she attained some fame as the creator of a war hero's signature weapon. She had just officially finished her apprenticeship and was going to open a smithy of her own in a new location. . .

Well, that's all she remembers. She can't remember is she went to bed and then woke up here or if she was on the trail and was knocked out and woke up here, but at any rate, one day she woke up and saw the stars above her.

Yolei is still in a sort of stupor; everything is strange to her and she doesn't even know if she's dreaming or not, but there is one thing she does know and that's that "the living look after each other." In other words, she's still gullible and won't question anyone's intent if they offer her a home, a job, or even just a kind word or two. The only exception, as you might have guessed, is in regards to the undead: vampires are, for lack of a better word, her mortal enemy. She may one day discover her predatory side, assuming someone will take the time to open her eyes to it.

Inventory
- Her halberd, custom-made for Yolei, by Yolei. It has a hallowed-out Mithril shaft and axehead with an Orichalcum coating along the blade's edge, making it sharp and durable despite weighing only five pounds.
- A mithril breastplate.
- Mithril bracers.
- Leather leggings
- A linked crossbow. A Trindellite patent, it functions very much like a normal crossbow, except that it uses a single bolt on a chain which recoils and loads back into place when the trigger is released. Like the halberd, the bolt is Mithril with an Orichalcum tip, ensuring that it never gets lodged in its target; it goes clean through it. The chain and crossbow are made of titanium, not as light but equally durable.
- Two interchangeable hooks for the linked crossbow: a titanium grappling hook, and a titanium barbed bolt that Yolei uses for fishing.
- A full camping kit: tent, bedrolls, first aid kit, flints, frying pan, all purchased locally.
- A pouch full of assorted pills and ointments.
- Her national bank card (paper money in Trindell is almost nonexistent), which is unfortunately not compatible with any local ATMs.

Park Status / Encounters
- Met Lord_Darkside, who told her about the nature of the Park and gave her some kind of orb to reform her if need be, but Yolei lost all trust in L.D. and now avoids him. Yolei fastened the orb into a silver pendant, which she sold in town, used the profits from to buy her camping kit and spent the rest on canned rations.

Still a voregin.

Yolei was born and raised in a city-state called Trindell, which has a multi-racial community but also a tightly enclosed society. Trindell's population consists primary of human lycanthropes with minorities of (in order of most numerous to least) wemics, gnolls (duh), minotaurs, centaurs, kobolds, selkies, tanukis, dragons, and unicorns. If you are, or closely resemble, one of these (and you are clearly not undead), she will likely be very welcoming to you. Anything else she either will not have heard of or believes is extinct and will demand some explanation if she encounters one in the Park that is clearly not undead.

"Wild" generally is used as a synonym for "undead," but Yolei is still familiar with several hundred different feral species. The Trindellite people were successful (over several centuries) in domesticating every single animal they could preserve (tigers, wolves and bears are as common in Trindell as are cats and dogs in our world), even taming and employing as war mounts worgs, dire tigers and other larger-than-life animals. Yolei will therefore be hard-pressed to find a feral she has not seen before, and since her only experiences have been with animals that were either completely tame or undead, may be more gullible when it comes to them.

The Trindell landscape is littered with countless ruins: monuments to prior peoples who shunned their fellow living and were overcome by the united undead. Trindell's people, therefore, pride themselves on being tolerant and respectful of all who are sentient and living, to the point that inter-species marriage or adoptions are very much romanticized by their lore and encouraged by society. Yolei was raised by inter-species parents, so she herself is very much romanticizing the idea of marrying and adopting outside of her species as well.

Polygamy (among many other things) is also legal in eyes of Trindellite law and looked the other way at by its people, so even though Yolei has already picked out in her mind the one and only man she would like to wed and start a family with, she is no way opposed to possibly having extended relationships with others. . .

As for the opposite gender, well. . . Yolei is open to that too. . . Any sort of "mouth to genital" stuff, however, will make her nervous, so any women interested in a relationship with Yolei may have to settle for. . . Well, exactly that: a relationship.

The government is very much libertarian in the sense that they only concern themselves with the safety and well being of its people and have no interest in "perpetual economic growth" or "moral crusades" of any kind, hence there are very few activities or "trades" that are outright illegal in Trindell. There are consequently many things Yolei might consider in order to get by that a "rational" person might not. It is even technically legal to own someone as a pet/slave (the presence of lycanthropes in the population means that line between sentient and feral -- or right to own and wrong to own -- is easily blurred) and Yolei may even consider auctioning off her company as a last resort.

Major emphasis on the word "technically" in that statement, however. There are plenty of loopholes in the Trindellite law (such as hiring someone as a "professional companion" or "stay-at-home employee"), but the actual processes of buying or selling people count as forms of kidnapping and extortion in Trindell's law books. Even if Yolei did put a price on herself, she'll still expect to have legal rights.

What few laws do concern "moral" issues usually restrict them indirectly and on more practical grounds. Marijuana, for example, is legal to consume or distribute for recreational purposes, but with limited farmland available, it is illegal to farm marijuana (or anything else besides foodstuffs for that matter) at an industrial level. So even though it's 100% legal, the rules set by the Ministry of Agriculture have it entirely restricted to independent "Mom & Pop" vendors that grow it in their garages or basements. Gambling and prostitution are likewise regulated by laws that concern the intended function of real estate as opposed to direct legal opposition to the trades. Yolei's only issue with such activities, therefore, will be the scale on which they are being performed (her beef is with casinos and brothels, not with gamblers or prostitutes as a whole).

The actual structure of the government is a Democratic Socialist state, at least at a minimal level. The government supports full food, housing and health care programs instead of writing welfare checks -- enough to keep their people alive and in good health without discouraging commerce. Yolei grew up on these programs, so while she is not above asking for food or shelter, she has trouble understanding why anyone would beg for money.

There is no official ruling class, but the druidic arts have been an integral part of Trindell's history and culture (and have also been instrumental in their continued survival), so the druids maintain a sort of political niche which they preserve through the extensive practice and promotion of progressive science and philanthropy. Yolei has no formal training in the arts herself, but she would like to some day and occasionally humors herself with some amateurish practices (like by trying to coax a bird or a squirrel to eat from her hand, for example).

Trindell is technologically advanced: Yolei is familiar with things like electricity, computers and firearms. The latter is seldom ever used by the military, however, because bullets are expendable -- to use guns requires a steady supply of bullets. A steady supply of bullets requires additional raw materials, and getting additional raw materials requires further exploration beyond their borders into zombie-infested lands. . . Which of course will require them to spend a lot of bullets, so the expedition would consider itself lucky to even make up their losses. Therefore the military, state and freelance alike, still rely on melee weapons and reusable bolts and arrows instead of modern-day firearms. So don't let the halberd and armor plate fool you -- Yolei is not a refugee from Amish country.

Yolei attended a university called Venapent -- the most prestigious military school in the country. Even though she did not officially graduate, the military training she did receive would consider her above average compared to the national guard. She's never actually fought off a vampiric dragon or single-handedly slain a thousand undead. . . But she has seen it done before. She could have graduated if she wanted to, but one near-death experience was all it took for her to decide that the life of the Trindellite elite or the heroes for hire was not for her.

She instead followed in her adoptive father's footsteps and studied advanced metalworks, deciding that she would supply the heroes instead of become one. She has experience working with both Mithril and Orichalcum, and as such, does not expect she will need to take just any job in the future.

In fact, many of her commissions were done via order, so rather than take up residence in an established big-city armory, Yolei chose to set up shop in Lawrence, a small fort town in close proximity to Yashian, the hometown of her intended husband that, ten years ago, had been lost to the undead. Yolei's intent was to set up shop in Lawrence so that, on top of her commissions, she could provide her direct services at a discount to the freelancers assisting in the Yashian recovery effort. . .

Well, that of course was before she woke up here. It might be a mixed blessing though. Yashian had actually been lost to and left abandoned by an invading army of living humans from a distant city state called Levitica. Levitica's government in contrast to Trindell's is very much corrupt, its laws draconian and unnecessary, and its people brought up to hate and fear anything nonhuman. On top of that, several of Yolei's best clients later rose to prominence in the Trindellite resistance movements, her intended husband being chief among them. Consequently, many Levitican military law officials and bounty hunters had pressed or threatened her as a potential lead. She maintains her belief that the living are supposed to look out for each other, but understandably, she may have some slight reservations about non-lycanthropic humans, as well as anyone wearing a badge.
