Yagi

Meet Yagi, an ordinary young adult goat. Well, ordinary is a relative term. Indeed, many aspects of his world would be quite extraordinary to you and I. Whether it's liminals* like himself or other humanoids, the existence of magic, or any number of other things, his world vastly differs from our own.

Yagi's World

Yagi lives on Earth. Specifically, he lives in Illinois, in the city of Chicago. His Earth shares many characteristics of our own, right down to cities and countries, and pop culture elements. What does differ, however, is the world's flora and fauna. Plant life varies from the mundane to the magical, and humans are not the world's only advanced species. Liminals*, elves, merfolk, and all manner of other humanoids aren't limited to just fiction. Even magic exists, though people with more than one or two small magical skills are rare.

Inter-species relationships are commonplace. It's not uncommon to see members of different species dating, or even married. Offspring almost always take after the mother's species with some characteristics of the father, and instances of two species being downright incompatible are few and far between.

*Appearance-wise, they're often mostly human with some animal features and traits

Magic

Magic isn't exactly simple. Most people have the aptitude to learn at least a moderate amount of magic, and it's not uncommon for a person to have at least one or two mundane skills, whether it be simple telekinesis, temperature control, illumination, or enhanced abilities (tougher skin, enhanced vision, that sort of thing). To learn magic is a long process, which is why most people don't bother beyond one or two simple skills, if that (there are roughly as many people with no magical skill as those with very little).

To advance beyond this requires a lot of dedication and a little luck. While most everyone has the aptitude for simple magic, fewer have the capability for more advanced magic. Those that do, and choose to dedicate a big portion of their life to its study (and I do mean dedicate) are rewarded with a large repertoire of more-advanced skills: levitation, healing, water breathing, large-scale telekinesis, and more.

Which leads us to potions and other related items. A skilled brewer can imbue all sorts of effects into consumable form, often using the world's magical fauna. The results range from energy pills, to providing temporary increases in one's skills, to medicine far beyond what our world has, to even temporarily granting magical powers. With the second half of the 20th century, potion making has expanded to an industrial scale. Someone can go down to the corner store and find magical potions in the cooler next to the sodas, and for about the same cost.

Predation

For why you're probably here, well. Yes, it's a boy-eats-girl world (or a girl-eats-boy, or boy-eats-boy, or girl-eats-girl, or...). For whatever reason, people are utterly delicious and share a place in the food chain, alongside their animal counterparts (both cow and cow liminal are still called beef). There's a new fad going around where people, with some magical assistance, can stretch to swallow another person whole, too, though this is notably less common. And, on the other side of the coin, most people have a magical insurance policy, so being eaten isn't the end. That's not to say this world's citizens are generally keen on being eaten; quite the contrary, being swallowed whole and digested alive isn't the most pleasant process, nor is being butchered or cooked. And even with the insurance policy, they're out of commission for at least a day or so. But, with the high desirability of people as a food source, there are people who tough it out and quite literally sell their bodies for a living, and it's pretty common for a family to have one of their own for dinner on a special occasion.

N-E-R-D, nerd. It's probably the best single-word description for the 22-year-old goat. A shy kid when he was younger, Yagi engrossed himself in the world of cartoons, video games, and comics, and never stopped liking them.
