Notes

Chryssalid. Referred to with female pronouns
Escaped lab specimen.

Appearance

Height: 1.8 meters
Weight: 145 lbs on a normal day
Coloration: Dark blue/purple, orange accents, yellow eyes.
A cracked armor plate and broken spine on her right shoulder, from her first unsuccessful escape attempt.

Personality

A mostly feral creature, Xyri is driven by instinct more than anything else. To hide from threats, to stalk prey, to reproduce, and to feed. Expect most language not to carry much weight beyond its tone and general 'feel', since chryssalids are a species that barely passes as sentient. When with her own kind, she mainly communicates via body language and scented pheromones.
When confronting Xyri, projecting an air of dominance, or at least confidence is usually one's best bet of discouraging her from attacking. Loud noises, strong gestures, things of the sort can help ensure survival, or simply just not being caught alone with her. Her usual habit is to stay at a safe distance to watch and size up a potential prey item, then once confident of victory she will charge in, grab them, and then either deal with them there or else drag them off towards wherever she's nesting.

Abilities and powers

Mobility: Chryssalids move fast, and their spindly bodies let them fit into vents, tunnels, and various other things. They're also able to scale their way up sheer walls or even jump 15 feet vertically.

Venom: While not as potent as the subspecies of chryssalid involved in certain planetary occupations, Xyri is still capable of immobilizing prey with a fast acting neurotoxin. This leaves the victim without motor functions, but tends to allow them both feeling and awareness... though individuals may have different reactions.

Cocooning:With an immobilized creature, Xyri will tend to carry them off to an isolated area before regurgitating a sort of organic 'webbing' to hold them in place. From there, she will then gnaw on their body, usually near upper back, near spinal column until a suitable wound has been made, and then an egg will be placed inside the victim. Over the course of an hour the young will gestate and grow, feeding upon the host until they finally die from the process. The newborn will then devour the remains until it is ready to go off on its own. Hatchlings spawned in this manner have very rarely been observed responding to their host's name, even passing by those the host had known without harming them. This is likely entirely coincidental. There is no scientific evidence that consciousness has been retained, on any level.

BY DEFAULT DISABLED DUE TO A SURGICAL PROCEDURE DURING CAPTIVITY.
Implantation: Xyri can savagely bite into a prey thing, while a specialized organ places an egg in the wound. Over the next few minutes a young chryssalid will begin to grow and feed before emerging in a usually fatal fashion. The 'hatchling's are considerably smaller and weaker than Xyri herself, and are dispatched fairly easily.

Background

Aliens. Visitors from other worlds. Not something that any terrestrial government would want to admit exists, but they lurk in some of the corners of the world. Xyri's story begins in the mid 1980s with a crashed UFO near an otherwise uninhabited island in East Pacific. The crew of the ship died either on impact or shortly after as the spacecraft sunk into the water nearby, but their stock of terror weapons, chryssalids, managed to come out of storage and make it to dry land, where they managed to survive and reproduce for the next few years.
After a few missing persons cases nearby, rumors that extraterrestrial creatures killing anyone who entered the forests spread, and the US government sent a team to investigate. One horror movie of a mission later, the few survivors barely clinging to life while one of them carried a rapidly developing chryssalid embryo within them. The island was then wiped off with a nuclear bomb, disguised as just another 'routine test' as the last remaining specimen burst out of the soldier carrying it and was only barely contained. With a genuine alien creature in captivity, they sent it off to a research base back in the continental US, where it would remain for the next 30 years.
Subjected to many tests over the years Xeno Species R Subject 1, affectionately referred to as Xyri (with “Little Miss Escape-y as a close second in the office poll) had temporarily broken containment on four separate occasions, leading to a total of 23 injuries and 6 fatalities among staff. However, even though she had been recaptured each time, she was learning the habits, procedures, and other information about her captors. And the fifth time containment was breached, Xyri killed all who were present without the alarm being raised and managed to escape. She had a 4 hour lead before a search was organized, and by then the creature was beyond them.
Currently, Xyri is in the clear, having traveled miles overland to a new city rather than exhibit the usual nesting behaviors. She's set up a small nest in the underbelly of the city and primarily uses drainage, sewer or ventilation systems to navigate without drawing suspicion. All it would take is a few red flags to draw the attention of the government again, after all.

Notable setting information

Xyri is a creature from space, mostly similar to how Chryssalids are in the XCOM universe. In her default setting, the Elders noticed the world, but didn't do mount a full-on invasion. Those who dig enough into UFO conspiracies can find no shortage of alien species that have been spotted, among them being the usual sectoids, vipers, and chryssalids.
