Ghost Lamias:
Ghost Lamias are often mistaken for albinos due to their pale skin and the the light coloration of their tails. However, they are not true albinos as their skin does have some pigmentation and so lack the "dead white" color of an albino's skin, nor do they have the characteristic red eyes common to albinos of all species. They are a bit sensitive to sunlight due to their pale skin and scales and so have adapted to a unique, mostly nocturnal lifestyle. The species was named Ghost Lamias because of the odd glow their skin and scales seem to give off in moonlight, granting them a ghostly appearance from afar. They have evolved to become warm blooded so as to avoid having to expose their sensitive skin to the sun everyday in order to heat themselves up. They are also sensitive to infrared energies which allows the Ghost Lamia to hunt as well at night and in dark places like cave as most lamia hunt while in the light of day. Their peculiar color affords them no camoflage and so they tend to either ambush their prey or wait and attack while the prey is sleeping.

Ghost Lamias are also one of the few, rare examples of a venomous constrictor, having small retractable fangs which fold back during feeding so as not to get caught on the prey being swallowed. The venom produced by these Lamia is weak but made and injected in very large amounts; rather like how a cobra's venom is actually quite weak, but made more effective by the large dose of venom it quickly pumps into its victims. The Ghost Lamias' venom is actually a non-lethal muscle relaxer. A bite from one of these creatures causes extreme weakness and severe loss of motor control; thus preventing prey from resisting or escaping, and preventing threats from chasing after them.

Ghost Lamias are nocturnal for the most part, hunting and being more active at nigh, while their would-be prey is most likely sleeping. Veteran Ghost Lamias have been known to sneak into the dwellings of human and demi-human families, swallow on of the family members, and leave with their meal in their belly and neither them, nor their victem having woken up anyone else in the family.


Background Info:
Xei Ling's birth parents were killed by a huntress for their skins, before she even hatched from her egg. The huntress, was also some what of a merchant herself, selling the spoils and trophies of her kills in the hopes of eventually retiring from adventuring life and owning a shop. As was mentioned before, the budding entrepreneur skinned the dead bodies of Xei-Xei's parents and sold the skins to leatherworkers. She also found the nagas' clutch of eggs and sold all but one which she kept for herself. She hoped to raise this egg, and evenutally breed the lamia which hatched to make her own lamia skin farm. The huntress even went so far as to take large amounts of fenugreek and other herbs known to induce lactation she the hatching would better bond with her and trust her; and once Xei-Ling hatched, this approached worked for a while. The huntress raised Xei-Xei as her own, breast feeding the young lamia, trying to touch her how to speak, and even buying clothes for her so the young creature wouldn't be wandering around nude all the time. However, as children are often want to do, they tend to wander away and get lost if one doesn't watch them nearly every second. This being exactly what happened when the huntress took Xei-xei with her while looking for exotic creatures who's pelt might fetch some hefty coin. While the huntress was away looking for her next kill, a hungry and impatient Xei-Ling had managed to figure out how to open the door to her cage and wandered off into the wilderness in search of food or milk.


/Personality:
Xei-Xei is a mischievious child basically. Playful, willful, childish, driven mainly by her needs, instincts, and wants. As with many young lamias, Xei-Xei has a bit of an oral fixation, and a bit of an appetite. Anything which seems interesting or edible will usually wind up in her mouth. Having been raised by a human for a brief has taught Xei-Xei a limited vocabulary, but it has done nothing to effect what the young lamia thinks smells or tastes good. Of course, being young and inexperienced means that sometimes her eyes get too big for her stomach and she'll start trying to swallow something or someone that is far too much for her to handle, which occasionally gets Xei-Xei into trouble. She is terrified of spiders: She has no legs, things with 2-4 legs tend to be food or atleast smell like food, but 8 legs is too many legs for anything to have and they're ugly, and creepy, and scary. Xei-Xei is also at the moment pertrified of all canines and canine-kin because their loud barking frightens her. She has a natural tendency towards females since her last caretaker (the Huntress) was also female, that and she's learned that men have no milk, no matter how big their man-boobs are. When frightened she'll either curl up into a ball, attempt to flee, or attemtpt to hide behind the closest, friendly looking, non-canine female. She tends to be very sleepy during the day and doesn't like the hot sun, preferring very much to be in the shade. As daylight wanes, she becomes much livelier and likes to crawl into tight and narrow spaces as they remind her of the burrows she's crawled into in order to catch food sometimes. Also she has a habit when nervous or bored of sucking on the end of her tail unless something tastier or more interesting is available. She has a very limited vocabulary and can count as high as 11 using her fingers and the end of her tail.

Having been chased by a scary dog just because she wanted to drink some water from its bowl. Xei-Xei has now found herself adopted by Calfgirl_Elly. After some much welcomed affection and tenderness, not to mention some very persistent suckling, Xei-Xei did finally get her drink and now a new home and mommy to go with with a newfound supply of milk. Since then XeiLing has encountered the beautiful Ninase who has promised to let the young lamia devour once Xeixei has grown big enough. Ninase also seems to fascinate the young creature who has started referring to her as "Aunty Nina." Xeixei has also encountered other nagas/lamias for the first time. Using the semi-violent Sycniele and the younger Jaime, Xei decided to make a pillow of Syc and was later taken back to Jaime's home. After feeding Xei a rabbit and promising to teach her how to catch them, he found himself suddenly declared to be the serpent-child's older brother.


Notes:
Infravision: Xei-Xei is able to "see" heat sources in lightess environments, this allows her to navigate and hunt in places like burrows, and caves, or on moonless nights.

Ghostly Glow: For some unknown reason, Xei-Xei's skin and tail give off a slight glow while in moon light. It has no other effect other than to make her seem slightly eerie at a distance.

Venom: Xei-Xei can easily inject enough venom to render most creatures up to five or six times her size into twitching heaps on the ground thanks to her non-lethal venom. Symptoms includes slurred and incomprehensible speech accompanied by sudden loss of fine motor control (the ability to hold and manipulate objects) in the hands and feet. This is followed by rapidly weakening muscles in the victem's limbs causing a feeling of heaviness as the victem soon cannot support their own weight and become unable to stand or walk. Total loss of muscle control occurs within 1-6 minutes depending on the size of the creature bitten, and lasts as long as three hours before they start regaining strength and coordination; which is more than enough time for most lamia to either finish swallowing their prey down or flee from any bitten threat.

Poor Camoflage: Xei-Xei's rather unique coloring makes it very easy to spot her in all by the densest foliage. She hasn't quite yet figured out the whole "stealth" concept yet and she still looks at many things as more of a game than anything else, being still so young after all.

Warm Blooded: Being warm blooded means that she doesn't have to spend time sunning herself or near a heat source every morning just to be able to get moving. And where as most lamia start getting lethargic in colder temperatures, Xei-Xei's species would just shiver a little and keep going, burning extra calories to stay warm. The down side to being warmblooded is that it requires a higher metabolism and that a high amount of calories be kept in reserve for when needed to keep warm. This means that Ghost Lamia like Xei-Xei need to eat considerably more food to maintain themselves than their cold-blooded relatives of the same size, and that they grow much slower than other species of Lamia as alot of the calories consumed are then burned off to regulate body temperature.
