When it comes to crossovers of many sorts, especially of the video game variety, there's usually a few characters created especially for the occasion. Sometimes they're just player avatars, other times (nowhere near as often) they have their own arcs that develop over the course of the plot. Very rarely does a crossover transpire without at least one or two original characters that most definitely don't fit in with everyone else to some degree. Even intercontinuity crossovers such as Hyrule Warriors aren't exempt in the slightest. Enter Lana.
Typically, Lana appears with sky blue hair done up in a ponytail of sorts (though, it sits atop of her head rather than behind like most ponytails off the top of my head), and a small jewel hairclip of sorts... if it can even be called that. Whatever it is, it's fairly distinctive. As for the rest of her outfit, it is... quite distinctive, and doesn't leave a whole hell of a lot to the imagination sometimes. Not nearly to the degree of her counterpart Cia, but more on that later. Like, damn... how does she not show off much below that skirt with what she does?
To the untrained and unacquainted eye, Lana appears to be the upbeat girl of the core Hyrule Warriors crew (the others being Link, Zelda/Shiek, and Impa). She has a fair bit of energy to spare, and keeps things straightforward. Also very knowledgeable about spells, monsters, using spells on monsters, and the like. Two of her three weapons are predicated around magic use, after all (the spell book and the summoning gate). But as the story progresses, she's not all smiles. Like many a smiling anime girl, Lana has personal baggage that she doesn't like to bring up so easily. Notably, it ties in with the main arc of herself and Cia, one of the villains of the first half of the game's plot.
The tale of Hyrule Warriors documents the unofficial(?) "War Across the Ages". It starts with a sorceress, deep within the forest away from mortal eyes. She was tasked with watching over the balance of the legendary Triforce. Mostly, she was just an intelligence gatherer, always watching across the ages and supervising all who lived in them, but never directly interfering. ...But then came Link. The Hero of Legend himself, reborn when Hyrule needs him the most. The sorceress became infatuated with him, yet she could never make him her own. He was eternally bound to the soul of Zelda. Thus, she wallowed in her jealousy... until a certain voice of darkness reached out to her from its prison. The eternal emperor of evil, Ganondorf, seized the opportunity to twist that jealousy out of control, to the point of obsession. What sense and goodness was left in her was pushed out, leaving a woman who would stop at nothing to make Link hers and hers alone. By some means, this light of the sorceress... the light of Cia's heart... would manifest in the form of the white sorceress, Lana.
There's still some of Cia in Lana... most notably for purposes of this story, her love for Link. But as the goodness of Cia, Lana knows damn well that he belongs with Zelda, as fate decrees. Still... she can't help but hurt over that fact, as well as considering her counterpart--her original, a sister, enough to want to get some sense back into her. Not that she isn't a genuine smiler in some cases, I imagine, but she has a lot going for her for a single game appearance, and one that's most likely not even canon in the weirdness that is the three-pronged Zelda timeline. But hell, I wouldn't mind seeing her in a "canon" game somewhere, if only to give her a hug.
