Walnut

Name: Walnut
Age: Unknown
Gender: Female
Height: 4 inches // 10 cm (willing to negotiate)
Species: Fairy

Walnut is a fairy not unlike any other: energetic, easily excitable, and (when free) generally pretty cheerful. Of course, it is never as simple as that. You see, her race is one bound by a curse placed on them many thousand years ago; one that stifles their powers slightly until they are captured/enslaved. Doing this is as easy as trapping the fairy in a closed space. When this happens, their magical abilities are completely sealed away by the curse, making it impossible for them to use any outside of wish-granting for their new masters, as per the "contract." As for wishes, if the individual that captured the fairy makes a wish, the fae's true potential is unleashed and they can grant near any wish imaginable. Of course, if there is a chance for escape, don't doubt that any fairy would take it.

Of course, there is a growing number of fae-folk that are able to resist the call of the curse when trapped and are able to avoid granting the wishes asked of them when under contract. Walnut is one of these, but in addition to this, she is also the first whose seal is weaker than all of the others. You see, when the shell of the seal encloses her magical ability and cuts it off from her access, there is a small fracture in it that she is able to dip into. The magic pulled from it is excessively weak, but it gives her race hope for the future.

This makes Walnut a valuable asset to her kind. Each time she perishes, they perform a dark ritual to bring her back to life. And each time, it tears Walnut apart inside. She doesn't think her ability is worth the great cost of reviving her after each death. Walnut tries her hardest to keep from falling into traps... But in her lifetime, she's had quite a few close calls and actual encounters. She's only died a couple of times, but the guilt that weighs upon her for what it takes to bring her back is unbearable.

The ritual is something that even Walnut herself isn't completely aware of the procedure. She only knows that it takes quite a lot of power and that they are forced to use the raw, unadultered magic of a fae to perform it. This magic can only be taken from a fae whose seal isn't developed yet... Meaning that they must kill an infant and harness its power, as the seals don't develop until the fae turn three or four years old.

The elders of her kind push her daily to try to find and take a mate to produce an heir of her talent... But the few times that Walnut has tried to reproduce have come to naught. She does want to be a mother and she also wants to save her brothers and sisters from the cruel fate of being trapped in a glass bottle (or any other various containers) for the rest of their lives... However, at the same time, she also wants to be free of this burden.

Trivia:
1. Fairies can live up to ~500 years outside of contract, however, if they are captured, they begin to slowly die. The longest recorded case of a fairy living in captivity is ten years before it passed away.

2. Fairykind knows that the revival procedure is morbid and they have tried other methods of revival in the past (including asking someone to temporarily capture one of them in order to bring the dead back to life), but no other methods have worked in their favour... They had one individual revive the dead, but then they ended up losing the one they let go to Contract, as the human ended up keeping them for selfish reasons. Now they no longer trust anyone with helping them.

3. The wings of a fairy are, aesthetically, very similar to a dragon fly, but upon closer inspection, they are far more complex than that. Magical energy courses through each of the veins of them, allowing them to fly faster and longer than the wings would normally allow. Unfortunately for them, this also means that damage to the wings is a constant leak of magical energy, which can bring a fae to exhaustion very quickly. Repairing them is not only patching up the physical, but also the magic channels.
