Personality:
Wairere is a travelling, watchful guardian of nature, a Taniwha of Māori folklore who lives alongside coasts and rivers.
According to ancient mythology the Taniwha were mighty sea monsters who lived in ancient Aotearoa, acting either as guardians of the Māori settlements, or as dangerous predators who terrorized the tribes.
Wairere balances both these mythical origins, he's not the most aggressive leviathan in the world, but he's not afraid to devour the occasional maiden or put on a cruel act when he feels bored.
His duties is simply to be a mediator between man and nature, either helping wayward humans survive in the wilderness, or protecting the flora and fauna from those who'd seek to exploit it.
He's the kind of person to help others brave the dangers of the natural world so that they may see it's beauty first hand, but also teach a few important stern lessons to humans ungrateful for the earth they were born on.
Despite his rather noble fealties, Taniwha is still a rather easy-going guy. He's not exactly intent on being some mythical park ranger, or a mysterious cryptid, he generally prefers to hang out and interact with humans without all the mystical mojo.
Living your entire life in murky caves or dank riverbeds can make you a bit starved for a social life, and sometimes he gets a bit too interested in humans. He's been known to think more with his stomach, or act on impulse when he hangs around cute, edible little mortals~

Presentation:
Wairere was born as and identifies as a guy, although its not like gender matters that much to ancient sea serpents.
His body is generally a synthesis between his aquatic true form, and a human body.
Dark skin, yellow eyes, long black hair and a male's anatomy, crossed with scales, sharklike teeth, a tail, and a row of spines.
His original, eldritch body was a pretty impressive draconic creature, but was a little bit too menacing than what he was comfortable with. As such, he remains in his demi-human form under all circumstances.
Wairere is attracted to basically everyone, again to repeat, gender doesn't matter to ancient sea serpents. He doesn't mind his foods species or gender, but he has a slight lean towards devouring or toying with cute girls.
Although he doesn't mind going in the nude, and frequently does, Wairere still usually wears clothing. A comfortable red jacket, loose black pants, a necklace and not much else. His hair is worn unkept in a 'rapa' style, common among sacred creatures.
Because of the Māori traditions around Tapu and Mana, the belief that a persons essence is infused into their body and their belongings, Wairere is very protective about his apparel and his hair. Having ownership of them would almost literally grant one power over him.

Backstory:
As previously described, Wairere was a great sea serpent who arrived in the land of Aotearoa, what is today known as New Zealand.
He played his part in the ancient folklore as a minor mythological creature, being a guardian in some stories, and a cruel beast who kidanpped and devoured maidens in other tales.
Over time, he eventually found his way to the Nexus, continuing his mythological duties as a medium between nature and man.
Since then he's tried his best to protect the environment of the Nexus Park, as well as sample the local 'cuisine'.
Over the centuries, he shed his original beastly form and settled as being a cute monsterboy instead.

Powers:
His most obvious strength is that Wairere, is after all, a legendary creature of myth.
He is very strong, very capable of magic, and an extraordinary swimmer. His magic is based around his affiliation with the wilds, being largely water and nature magic.
As a mythical predator, he's blessed with an incredibly powerful stomach that can churn through any human with ease, and even other monsters or legendary beings with a bit of effort.
Finally, his scaly form comes with its own benefits, a prehensile tail and a rather potent regeneration.
