When one hears of the Eldritch, they think of misshapen, crazed creatures driven and controlled by massive, ancient tentacle monsters that can destroy dimensions just by breathing too hard. These ancient gods, if one can call them proper gods, are deep wells of power that destroys the user and drives them mad as they learn more and more of the truth underlying the world, so generously given by their Eldritch deity.

Unless we're talking about Volis.

Volis is the rare example of a human that has managed to keep her sanity (mostly) intact throughout the study of the Eldritch, which in turn lead to her getting a very slight bit of attention from those deities mentioned before, just enough to prevent her from being immediately melted from it. However, while she recieved power from them, she did not come out of this untouched. Her body was warped, and yet, her mind remained intact, save for it being a bit shaken up. Her audience with the ancient deities left her empowered, able to research herself instead of risking anything with further interaction with them, thus preserving her current state.

However, the problem came soon after, when she realised that her favorite hat was exposed to the ancient gods. It fused with her head, binding to her, and more or less forcing that outlandish energy into her system. While it works as a constant generator for her magic, it also has lead to some... interesting mood swings. Her normally calm and collected demeanor will suddenly spike into sadistic and maniacal hostility for no real reason at all. It could happen any minute, but after the first several dozen times, she has enough of a wrap on it to prevent these episodes from taking too much control of her. The hat itself is a fully functioning apparatus, containing several long, black tentacles and its own mouth and eye that she can use, though she has no idea where the mouth really leads considering she can never feel any food dropped inside after swallowing.

Her anatomy otherwise is nothing sort of ridiculous. Two hearts, several additional chambers all around her body for storing various, usually unnatural fluids, retractable tentacles, her hands being able to switch from tentacles to normal hands at will, the ability to shoot blood from her eyes for some reason... the list goes on. However, it was quite easy to simply take these in stride. These were fairly minor in compairson to some of those she studied or read about in order to gain a greater understanding. Granted, the lack of solidity to her form allowing her to contort and bend and squeeze her body as if she was empty was offputting, but altogether, these additions are only really useful to her in a practical sense.


Volis is a shut-in for the most part, and a bookworm on top of that. She's not really the type to go out and socialize without real neccesity, and is terrible at small talk. However, she is still compentent enough to maneuver around social situations despite her current abnormalities. She's friendly enough, but has few actual friends, and no remaining family, meaning she just simply comes and goes as she pleases, visiting towns and the like, though she has been asked to come to several magical colleges for her expertise in Eldritch magics without being a crazy fish-cultist intent on harvesting the souls of the innocent.
