It's 'common' knowledge that magic and technology don't mix. They're two different branches... the mystical vs. the scientific. The folks in either camp tend to have a mistrust for their peers.
Never has this been more true than now. Witches and warlocks oppress the lands, using powers that the common man can barely hope to stand up to. New technology, struggling to sprout forth from the ashes of a ruined society, was all but outlawed.
Virtue is a direct result of the technological camp deciding to one-up the magical camp. She was created as the antithesis to magic... an android designed to nullify magic completely. However, her creators stumbled upon a bit of irony... for magic was the only power source suitable to keep her advanced body running.
A particular witch was responsible for this idea. Tired of seeing magic used to oppress, she met in secret with the scientists and instructed them on the creation of a Lapis Engine... a small core of concentrated mana that would allow Virtue to run off of magic that she absorbed. This is Virtue's heart... and the source of all of her abilities. The scientists forged her body. And her soul? The witch volunteered that, as well... taking her own life so that she could ensure Virtue's powers were used correctly. Her name is lost to time, now... she even forgets it, herself. It doesn't matter, though. She is Virtue, now.
Virtue's primary duty is as a mage hunter. The android is designed specifically to counter magic users, for she is a magic null point. Magic cannot be cast on her, nor can it be cast within about twenty-five feet of her. Any spells that enter this radius are automatically dispelled or dissipated. Magical projectiles are unable to enter this radius, as well. Magical creatures may exist, but cannot use any powers, active or passive.
How does Virtue make use of her own abilities then, if powered by magic? Simple. Virtue's Lapis Engine is fused with her technological being... that is to say, her body does not recognize her own magic as magic, and allows it to function normally.
Generally, all she has to do to defeat a magic user is get close to them and beat them up. Rarely does she need to resort to killing them. However, a magic user that is directly hostile to her or anyone she is traveling with is generally executed without questions... or mercy.
Her primary weapon is a long spear known as Justice that she is able to hurl incredible distances with remarkable accuracy. The spear can be recalled to her, as well, should the need arise. She is also equipped with pistols built into her index fingers, and an energy discharger in each palm that allows her to blast opponents with bursts of magical energy. She cannot actively cast spells, however... her body quickly recognizes these and nullifies them. She is quite capable, and trained, with most melee and firearms type weaponry, allowing her to fight effectively with most things she can find. She is very fond of firearms she can use during flight.
Virtue is also capable of swift flight for short periods of time... five minutes, at most, before a short recharge is required. She can travel as fast as some aircraft, however.
Her body is quite resilient, proving able to resist melee weapons and solid firearms quite well. She's not yet run into energy weaponry... they don't quite exist in her timeline. Magical bullets, of course, are quite useless.
Many of her parts... her torso, her breasts, her thighs, her face, her hair... are still soft and realistic. She does still deal with people, and being made totally out of metal often puts them off! As is, people have trouble relaxing around her. She is rather cold and indifferent most of the time... her real personality only comes out when she is around people she is comfortable with. She will call them comrades, or squadmates... they are generally people she has fought alongside and come to respect via their battle prowess.
Virtue is able to eat, oddly enough. She has a rudimentary stomach that melts biomass down for use as an overcharge to her Lapis Engine. She is capable of consuming whole people via her mouth, and her hair is able to surround and melt them as well, turning them into mana. When overcharged, she gains a few extra abilities, and her flight is unlimited. She usually only does this out of necessity, or if a particularly irritating opponent has surfaced... however, she can be persuaded by friends to do it, as well.
While her primary objective is to silence the oppressive magic users in her homeland, she often shows up elsewhere to do so. Not to say she's only useful against them... she's an able combatant, and often responds positively to requests for assistance in any case. If you've a job for her, ask.
