Venmara

Y'ever have one of those days where you know things are going to be awkward? Remember how much that feeling sucked?

Ven has that every day. Has had it for most of his life, actually. He can't help that, though. It's not his fault, after all, but the fault of his partner and guardian, Mara.

You see, from a young age, everyone expected great things from Ven. His mother and father were both significant figures in recent history(though not the sort that anyone hears about), being a master exorcist and a skilled monk, respectively. Those were their side jobs more than their professions, but you could say it was their calling. It was also how they met, and what made them consider giving Ven up for adoption at a young age. As it happens, when you regularly kick demons back to hell, or fight supernatural entities, you find out that they hold a HELL of a grudge... and they can be a LOT more patient when it comes to revenge. Ven would have made the perfect target for an unscrupulous entity.

Fortunately for him, both of his parents were also liked and respected by quite a bit of the supernatural community for their dealings with the less savory members of that society. The nicer side of the spiritual world offered a solution that would keep Ven healthy and happy. They didn't think to caution his parents about the side effects, is all.

In short, at a young age Ven started sharing his body with a prankster spirit tasked with protecting him, who only went by the name of Mara. Not her true name, but that's unimportant. HE could always see Mara, or at least hear her, and interact with her. And Mara... well, Mara got bored. And when Mara got bored, she started... tweaking things. And when Ven woke up as a girl one morning, his parents were DEFINITELY not amused.

Still, there was nothing they could do about it. Mara was quite a powerful spirit, and had not, in fact, done any lasting harm. She was also rather... attached, to Ven's body and soul. Any attempt to exorcise her would open Ven up to attacks by less savory entities, and possibly killed him! So he had to learn how to cope, even as he started to learn the tricks of the trade. How to talk to spirits(and not offend them or trap himself), how to fight monsters.... all that good stuff.

Too bad there's no help with girls. Mara just giggles, and neither of his parents will give him an answer! Ah, well. Such is life!

At present, Ven is going to school as often as he can. His sudden, somewhat frequent absences are passed off as doctor's visits, sometimes lasting for a week or more. He does well enough on his exams that no one worries too much about that, though. Too bad they're more often the result of a bored Mara playing with his anatomy, or a demon incursion.... I mean really! COME ON. Is it too much to ask to wake up as the same gender you went to bed as!? (Yes, apparently).
