She is a teenage girl from a family of eccentric bloodsuckers, but she is the redheaded stepchild of the bunch- because she is the only semi normal one. Unlike her relatives, she spends the day wide awake, doesn’t mind light, is scared of the dark- and instead of feasting upon the red stuff, she must find a way to get rid of her excessive blood. Her body produces excessively much blood and the only way to expel it short of an embarrassing, fountainous nosebleed is to find victims and inject her surplus into them. When her family finds out that Karin has had a vampuric awakening, they take advantage and encourage her to explore it. Karin was born to a clan of vampires who immigrated to Japan from overseas. However, Karin is not like the rest of her family. She does not suck blood; she has to give it away. Karin is a clumsy and shy high school girl who is supposed to be a descendent of an old and distinguished vampire clan. However, she is not your typical vampire- instead of sucking blood; she needs to reduce her own overflowing supply by injecting other people with it! If she cannot get rid of it fast enough, she gets terrible nosebleeds. She is a girl that gets nosebleeds all the time! Karin has a weird genetic defect that causes her body to generate too much blood. If she does not inject it into people, she will end up spewing it out her nose! Not only does she have that to deal with, she is also a total klutz to boot. Nevertheless, maybe Karin’s feeble attempts to hide her true identity and live a normal school life. Combined with her adorable fumbling in the presence of a guy or girl she likes, are the qualities that make her so appealing. Karin gets flushed and screws up all the time. She bleeds a lot and cries a lot, her face is really endearing. Karin is indeed very expressive. Therefore, it is a whole lot of fun to see her laughing, crying and cavorting. Her bumbling is the essence of what makes her so cute! Of course, we cannot forget her physical cuteness or her surprisingly well-proportioned body either. She is not attracted to other vampires; she keeps a special place in her heart for humans and some other creatures.

Karin Maaka (真紅 果林, Maaka Karin?) is descended from a long line of purebred vampires. However, instead of having to drink blood like normal vampires, Karin's body overproduces blood. Eventually, she reaches a point where she can no longer hold it in, and she must bite someone to inject them with her blood or else suffer from a massive nosebleed. If Karin goes too long without biting someone and tries to hold her blood in, she enters a "berserker"-like state and aggressively attacks the first target she as can find. Due to her unusual situation, Karin lives like a normal human rather than a vampire. She lives in the daylight, is not susceptible to common vampire weaknesses. and lacks the skills normal vampires have. These differences cause her to be somewhat separate from her parents and older brother, whom she only sees for a few hours in the time before she goes to sleep (she spends more time with her younger sister Anju, who has not yet awakened as a vampire). Karin is initially troubled to learn that human-vampire children are born sterile.
Karin is rendered unconscious for several days after trying to hold in her blood, during which time her family grows increasingly concerned that her condition would kill her. Her mother journeys to her birthplace in search of answers and learns that Karin is a rare vampire, called the "Spring of Psyche", that is born when the vampire species is struggling. The blood Karin produces can bestow fertility in other vampires. Karin is later kidnapped by vampires who want to feed from her to rejuvenate their own lives, though it will kill Karin in the process. They also plan to impregnate Karin against her will to continue the Psyche's existence. After Kenta and the Marker family save Karin from the Brownlicks Her family erases all of her memories of vampires, including themselves

If Karin is not your cup of tea, there is always her sister, the cool and beautiful Anju. Anju is Karin’s younger sister and she is still not old enough to be effected by her vampire “blood” yet but she is capable of erasing other people’s memories and making people shrink or grow. She usually helps her sister out by erasing the memories of the people Karin bites. However, she has been known to use her powers to shrink or grow people for selfish reasons. Therefore, if someone takes on a more powerful role than she does, she will be submissive but if she sees weakness, she will quickly be dominant. She is like her sister and stays away from relations with vampires

Anju Maaka (真紅 杏樹, Maaka Anju?), Karin's younger sister, is a normal vampire who has yet to reach the onset of her adulthood, and is one of the only family members who can still travel outside when it is cloudy, during dusk, or when she is carrying her parasol to block out the sun. Anju is proficient in the vampiric arts, having a large group of bat familiar spirits who aid in her watch over Karin. Anju, who collects strange dolls, is more frequently seen carrying Boogie (ブギーくん?), a doll housing the soul of a serial killer. As Karin is unable to erase human memory, Anju's aid is frequently required after Karin has bitten a human. However, Anju knows that when she matures, Karin will be alone when she is outside during the day.mothers:
