Professor Entry:
Luxray (the Gleam Eyes Pokémon) is a rare Electric-type Pokémon found among grassy plains and savannahs within the Sinnoh and Galar regions as well as the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Unova and Alola regions on rare occasions. While they might not have the special powers of other Electric-types, Luxray are dangerous physical combatants able to see right through just about any defense their opponent decides to put up. They may not gain access to many strong attacks, but for these beasts, that's more than worth putting up with; after all, how often do you get to battle with an animal that can literally see right through walls!?
While most Electric-types are able to generate electricity either by taking electrons from the air or by simply generating it manually within specialized organs, the members of the Shinx family are the only ones known that actually utilize their own muscle systems to generate electricity. On the legs of these creatures are special bands of muscle that are exceptionally responsive to electrical activity, which are clearly marked by differences in fur color. While most muscles build up lactic acid and a number of compounds as they are operated, these special muscles convert these compounds into a thick electrolyte solution that in turn allows Shinx to utilize their own biological energy to induce an electrical current; when applied in practice, this enables Shinx and their evolutions to utilize physical Electric-type attacks fairly efficiently without tiring themselves or losing much energy in the process, with excited trembling being a clear sign of their forms being super-charged with electrical energy. Unfortunately, because this is all based entirely on their muscle system, the special attributes of the family are fairly lacking in terms of power, limiting them mainly to close-quarters combat; this seems to work just fine for them, however, as the members of the Shinx family are particularly adapted for physical combat and possess comparatively weaker special abilities.
Luxray retain all of the abilities held by Luxio (namely their electrified claws, capacity to transfer electricity between one another through their tails and the ability to communicate with other Electric-types with electric pulses from their front paws) and gain two other unique abilities upon evolving: the ability to naturally learn the Electric Terrain technique and, more importantly, the capacity to see through physical objects. The actual mechanics of this latter ability are still poorly understood, but it seems that Luxray are able to channel the same electricity that flows through their muscular tissue into their ocular tissue, altering their vision in such a way as to allow them to see electricity rather than light. This works in the same fashion as eyes normally work in that the message received and interpreted by the brain is based on what the eyes take in; the only difference is that light is replaced with the electromagnetic field given off by other life-forms and certain objects. In this manner, Luxray can effectively see right through solid objects and detect creatures even on the opposite sides of rock walls, which usually proves to be useful when Luxray are searching for lost allies or children in the wild (unless there is otherwise too much electromagnetic interference to make a clear picture), though it is noted that this power uses up a lot of their energy, so they often must sleep for long periods of time to recharge their power after using this special ability. Aside from this unique ability, Luxray are also noticeably different from Luxio in that they are extremely proud and can grow quite antagonistic towards others if they are treated badly, which is likely a reaction to their pride-mentality lifestyle in the wild. This can make them very difficult to train if somehow caught from the wild fresh, but when trained properly, it can equally make them great partners to rely on for just about anything.
Though they might not be versatile enough to be of much use to most Electric-type specialists, Luxray are impressive beasts that can more than prove to be a handful in battle. With impressive physical strength and a Wild Charge attack sure to leave one heck of a mark, it goes without saying that Luxray are powerful beasts that should be approached with caution in any fight. Moreover, don't expect a few walls or even an illusion to confuse these beasts for very long; considering they can stare right through a cinderblock wall without ever missing a beat, it's unlikely that many distractions outside of an actual status condition are going to keep these monster cats down for long!
