Tolren

Tolren is a person, just like you! He is not easily quantified, described, or labeled. But it is true that he is a Fae. You might wonder, what exactly is a Fae? Well, for the most part the Fae are a race of enchanted beings with powers over glamor. That means that their powers affect the senses. They can make you tingle, they can make you laugh, they can make your food taste really bad or really divine, and they can even make you see or hear things that aren't really there. Yes, Fae creatures tend to be masters of illusion!


Some say that the Fae were the first intelligent beings in the world, and that they crossed over from the invisible world we can not see, and came here to the physical world before the other races were born or created. I tend to agree with them, but really, who cares? The truth is, few people are as clever as a Fae. Few people know how to trick you like a Fae, and a really witty Fae will even make you fall in love with them after they've taken advantage of you. Tolren is that type of Fae.

Why am I telling you about Tolren? Well, let's just say I'm one of those girls that fell in love with him. I'd like to warn you about him, but at the same time I hope maybe he'll read this and visit me again one day. You see, I haven't seen Tolren in 4 years! But I am the only one who really understands him, and he knows it.

Tolren is about 4 feet tall, not quite as tall as an Elf, but taller than a Halfling. Really, I think he's just the right height. Not that it matters so much because the truth is that Tolren can make himself seem bigger or smaller. He can make himself look scary or even make himself glow like an angel.

Yes, he has strange Fae powers, and a mischievous streak, but if you manage to get your hands on him, Tolren really isn't much stronger than a human boy. He's mainly a trickster and uses his powers to get into people's heads and play with their minds. His hair changes like the leaves throughout the seasons, and his skin is very fair and smooth. He doesn't have hair on his body, except for his head and small blond eyebrows. Sometimes his skin changes colors as well, depending on his mood and depending on what season it is. He tries to hide his emotions, but can't always do it.

If you're lucky you might see Tolren's wings, which are very thin and diaphanous. They are translucent, meaning you can see through them, and are a mix of a lavender and turquoise blue color. Just like other Fae, his wings are entirely delicate and sensitive, which is why he tends to hide them. To pluck a Fae's wings can potentially kill them, and the exposed nerve endings in his wings mean that they are painfully sensitive. He can fly very quickly though, like a hummingbird. And when he flies, sometimes a prismatic glimmering dust will fall off his wings. If you can gather a full vial of the dust, rumor has it that you can wish for anything your heart desires.

Usually, Tolren doesn't wear too much clothes. Sometimes he wears a sort of loincloth, though it is much more elegant and covers him up to mid thigh. Around the sleek muscles of his right thigh, he has a dagger sheathed to a strap of leather. It is a special dagger, he always told me, but he never would tell me how or why. I'm not sure if it was true or if he was just trying to seem tough.

I don't know much about Tolren's past or family, so I have no idea how to track him down. He loves the forests and he also really likes water, but he can't get his wings wet because then he can't fly and it also hurts his wings if the water is too hot or cold. I do know that he's traveled a lot in his life and that he can hide inside trees if he wants. I used to think that he had tattoos, but I noticed that sometimes the tattoos disappeared and sometimes new ones appeared in new places on his body; usually in swirling geometrical or tribal-like designs. Tolren told me that they are actually will o wisps, little forest spirits that sometimes like to live inside Fae creatures. I thought it was weird that a forest spirit was inside my Tolren, but he said it was perfectly natural. He is also prone to wearing flowers or feathers in his hair.

He tends to flirt a lot, too. It was one of the problems in our relationship. Tolren has a charmingly naughty smile, and though it's hard for me to remember his face after all these years, I still remember what his smile looked like.

As for his age, well, your guess is as good as mine. He looks like he's between 17-21 years old, but when I told him that one day he just laughed at me.
