Gus was the Champion in his days. A household name, known to all except for a few hermits, with a team that was nigh-unbeatable. Trainers would try their damndest - only to get smacked around by his Mienshao, or burnt to a crisp by his Hydreigon. His strategy was simple - be adaptable. If any 'mon on his team would be in trouble, he'd have one to send out. A Reuniclus for his Mienshao, a Crobat for his Hydreigon, a Scizor for his Crawdaunt - he had a team that worked hand in hand. All seemed perfect, like he was at the right seat in life.

It was, all til' he got in battle with an old friend.

Things got heated, both trainers had their backs to the wall. Gus with his Scizor, and Todd with his Haxorus. Gus had a Swords Dance backing his Scizor, and he went in for a Steel Wing on the opposing 'mon. Problem is, Steel Wing missed and left Todd in a sorry state, looking as if he was cut by knives as big as a newborn and as sharp as an obsidian razor. Now, Haxorus are a very territorial species - and Gus had just impeded on what was part of it's territory. It was outraged, swinging it's axe for a head around like a 'mon without mind.

The result of that, by the time Gus woke up, had him looking at a mask of his own face. There was no question in anybody's mind, not Todd's, and not his - he was dead. At least, Gus as he was known, was dead. All that esteem, gone because his Scizor missed. He was in shambles for months, often reduced to wailing every time he saw his mask. Once those months ended, he decided to get up out there and train himself. Any 'mon that he could fight was fought, and any experience that could be gained was. He soon became a Cofagrigus, becoming more acclimated to his untimely "re-assignment" in life and just taking it as it went. It was a break from championing, and he got to try new things like manipulating some shadows, for battling and for the hands a Cofagrigus dons. He knew Cofagrigus were said to have a taste for gold, and he tried it - honestly, he had been living a sad, sad life up until then. He got used to it...so used to it in fact, he even locked people into his own sort of coffin~

New pleasures were on his plate, and he chose to dine heartily, and still does. As of now, he's a relaxed, wise, roamer of a 'mon enjoying all the things that freedom and his abilities allow him to do and witness. Just like every Cofagrigus, that can mean one of those things is swallowing up another person.
