TheSerpent

Humans have such a backwards idea of compassion to the species they share their homes with.

Within his respective universe and timeline, Seliem's species was discovered in the Amazon Rainforest around the time the Civil War was occurring in the United States. Naturally, humanity did not take kindly to serpentine folk that had a tendency of making meals out of those that would disturb their nests, so they began killing the species rather indiscriminately as they interrupted their travels, along with a few other unique species found in that remote region, including cat-folk, lizardmen, and other bizarre specimens. Most governments kept the expeditions hushed, though word eventually got out and slavers, seeing the use of other men as servants slowly slipping away in the 'free world', decided to enterprise on the supposedly less than human denizens therein. Catfolk were a common catch, with lizardfolk coming in second, though Seliem's people, known by the locals as The Serpents, were becoming increasingly difficult to find, either hunted to near-extinction or simply wising up to the antics of humanity and going into hiding. Those caught wouldn't betray their kin, proving to have either strong wills or the conviction to take the secret to the grave.

Seliem's conviction proved him to be of the prior standing.

As expected, when the slavery of fellow men went out of style, the slavery of these human variants, capable of speaking the language of the 'more evolved, better man' became universally acceptable. The traveling auctions were almost ran like circuses, showing off the various species. In Seliem's particular group, he was always considered the rarest and most valuable prize... But also the most dangerous, earning the nickname 'Man-Breaker' when he escaped the protective bindings in his cell multiple times, and crushed the ribs of three men that tried to put him back in his chains. He also had a habit of ending up back in the group after a time, usually due to killing his owners, though his resilience and regeneration factor made it quite difficult to mark him for punishment.

But that was then. The here and now's a bit different.

A red-headed slaver came one day and made it a point to buy him and bring him home, using some mystic power to put him under. Much to his confusion, however, rather than waking in a mansion, Seliem woke in the Park, having been transported through the Nexus' Portal. Now free, and in a world where naga/lamia are quite a common sight, Seliem seeks to explore the world and learn more about other serpentine folk.

The irony of it all? His species was declared endangered in his world shortly after he left it. Not that it changed much; slavery was exchanged for being locked up in zoos and being forced to breed... But he doesn't have to worry about that now, right?

Seliem is fully capable of speaking fluent English, along with Ka'hrit, the native tongue of his people. He, however, can only read a little bit of English as he was never formerly taught the language. His total body length is fifteen feet, four of which is devoted to his humanoid portion. It has at least been a few months since he's appeared here, which is obvious as his musculature indicates he's had a healthy calorie intake, composed of fruit and meat, the latter of which is fairly common here...

((Revamped alt of Okusennman. Admittedly, the art is a placeholder until I can get a commission together, but it does nicely to show off his features [though the tail is a slightly darker shade of violet].))
