The Creature in question is a levitating artifical creation. It's named the Collector, for that's what it does. The creature captures prey with its various tentacles and will usually render prey insensate as its pulled into its primary orb.
Once prey is fully engulfed the Collector teases and works the prey pver until all resistance ceases. It will usually render down prey into more fluid to render more prey weak and easy to consume.
