Teresa is at
Permavore_Risk!
For most, the world is a straightforward, mundane place. But Teresa Goncalves has learned that this is not quite true. Formerly just another babe on Rio's sandy beaches, Teresa has learned some of the ephemeral truths of existance, though quite by accident. The hows and whys are quite irrelevant (and Teresa herself doen't quite understand them), but Teresa has learned how to step into what she refers to as the 'Spirit Realm', a shadowy reflection of the real world where the are no people and things aren't quite the same.
Teresa undergoes changes as well, the least of which are the cosmetic alterations of her eyes turning red and her hair turning shock white. She becomes stronger, faster, more accute. She can summon up and control etherial chains. Then, while trying to show off her newfound world to a friend, she quite by accident discovered that she could draw other people into the shadowy realm as well. It was this revelation more then the discovery of the Shadow Realm that profoundly changed Teresa's life, because with it she found her true calling.
Vigilante.
Which is lucky, because the amoral applications of Teresa's ability would be quite frightening indeed, should she choose to apply them! Teresa has chosen instead to go after the wicked, the unlawful, and the vile instead of preying upon the innocent. She is, however, a very heavy-handed hero, dispensing the ultimate justice by drawing the unsuspecting villain into the Shadow World, overcoming them with her new powers while they're still floundering about, and devouring their soul. She is, in effect, the judge, jury, and executioner in these encounters. Back in the 'real' world, the victim's body just keels over dead of seemingly no reason and rumors of the 'Karmic Killer' are circulating throughout Rio.
Incredibly proud both of herself, her stealthy reputation, and Rio's rapidly dropping crime rate, Teresa is ignorant of the true nature of the so-called 'Spirit Realm'. In reality, it is the border between life and death and what she is actually doing is destroying people's immortal souls in the name of justice and thereby preventing them from reaching their final reward (or punishment). Even if she found out, she might still rationalize that what she's doing is for the greater good, even if the punishment is very rarely fitting the crime.
Though the Spirit Realm might seem empty, it is not. Teresa is not the only human that's capable of entering the realm between life and death... she's just the only one that she knows of. There are some terrifying people out there, many with decades more experience in the ways of the Spirit World. Few of them are terribly moral people. Teresa is playing a very dangerous game and taking very large risks without even realizing it!
