.. and then, there's those like Mel, who DIDN'T belong, but who at least knew why, and came to accept the weirdness of his situation.
See, it all started twenty years ago, when a young artist met a rather fetching lady one night at a club. After some rather intense dancing, she led him away... and made him an offer. Without thinking, he accepted, and thus bound himself to her! Which, as it happens, worked out for the best, what with her being a Leanan Sidhe, and a high-ranking member of the Winter Court.
At first, her interest in him was purely professional. She was, and is, a patron of the arts, possibly one of the first beings ever to have THAT particular job. In exchange for a small amount of his blood, and his life energy, on a regular basis, she would provide him with inspiration, and hone his talent, leading, eventually, to his masterpiece, but also to his death at her hands. Unfortunately for her, or perhaps fortunately, things did not QUITE go as planned...
You see, she never anticipated falling in love with him. She never anticipated him being in love with HER. She certainly never anticipated having a few nights of wild sex, and getting knocked up. ... and, well, unfortunately for him, when the pregnancy cravings hit, HE didn't see her being hungry for HIM. Which explains why Tam was raised by mortals, really.
Sixteen years later, the boy's grown up well, and takes after BOTH his parents, to varying degrees. He's got a knack for illusions, and for concealment, as well as some mind-affecting magic, which is doubtless from his mother's side of the family. At the same time, he has an artistic talent which would seem to be from his father. His occasional predatory habit, on the other hand, is very DEFINITELY from his mother. Anything else, well, remains to be seen.
His talent, though, is not that of his father. His father was a singer, and a painter, primarily, and had become moderately famous in the artistic community for some of his works, especially those after he met his mother. Tam, on the other hand, is a writer, and an actor! His greatest enjoyment comes from prose, roleplays, and scripts, and has led him to school theater, as well as to various chatrooms over the years. He'd have a webcomic, but he can't seem to find an artist who'll do the job.
... he'd have a girlfriend, too, but.... well. It's complicated, there. His mother has VERY high standards, and she's a bit of a smother, at this point. She wants to make sure any girls he dates are up to her standards! ... the thing is, she tests them by EATING them. If they react a certain way, they pass, or fail, and those who pass are allowed to keep dating him. .. if they don't want to, she just eats them again, and pretty much bullies them into dating him still. It's kind of hard to have a meaningful relationship with someone whose mother is like that! Nevermind the fact that sometimes, if he's excited enough, he'll actually eat a girl himself without meaning to!
Still, aside from that, the guy's mostly normal. He's a high-school sophomore, sixteen years old, and making good grades(especially in his language classes, though that's because he has the gift of tongues). He's in the drama club, and one of their best actors! Outside of those areas, though, he's a bit... reserved. He tends to keep to himself, as much because of a slight nervousness when it comes to getting attached to someone, and regarding romantic matters, as well as due to his own weirdness. He has a sister who is shockingly open toward him, and loving, in ways that most humans wouldn't understand, and, well, there's always the possibility of family dropping in unannounced.
Plus, with his apprenticeship to a mortal mage, it's not like he has much time anyway... hell, he can't even do much, yet, but he's got to work super-hard to improve! Ah, well... such is the life of a student. At least as a mage, and a changeling, he can take his girlfriends on interesting dates!
Physically, Tam isn't terribly impressive in most respects. He's not very tall, being a mere five feet even. He's got a perfectly average, light brown hair color. His eyes are a fairly mundane blue. This doesn't stop him from being a fairly attractive fellow, mind you, as he's fit and healthy, with the slender figure most Fae have, but he LOOKS entirely human. Of course, most people could never tell that his ears are actually pointy, as he's actually got an illusion masking that detail. He tends to dress comfortably, in button-down shirts and jeans most often, though warmer weather will see him in other clothes, of course. That said, he never seems to need a heavy jacket in colder weather...
Personality-wise? Well, he's cautious in most social interactions with new people, but he loosens up well enough once he's used to whomever he's chatting with. He's friendly, cheerful, and fairly outgoing if you find him in the right mood, and he can be quite sweet and charming, if he tries. That said, he's a bit jumpy, at times, thanks to his rather unusual family. Still, he's easy enough to get along with, and a nice enough guy to hang out with, so don't be shy! He doesn't bite.
No guarantees his family won't, but meh.
