Magic.

Somehow, there's always a youth, a fire to that word - even though the concept has been around far, far longer than most of modern people. The why is easy to answer - it's very much like games over time. Ancient games look nothing like modern games, don't they?

The same goes for magic. Through the ages, it's changed - always being retooled and refit to modern times.

In it's current form, magic - or more specifically, performance magic - is largely smoke and mirrors. No, that guy isn't really being sawed in half, and no, the guy in the snazzy suit didn't read your mind for a card. There's always little holes in every routine that, when noticed, really shows you why magicians never tell their secrets.

However...none of this means magic isn't real - it simply means what's advertised as magic isn't magic. So, why do magicians seem to eschew actual magic in favor of illusion?

There's no real consensus on that, but it seems to just be a collective vow. Some turn away from it to make competition fair, others because they couldn't imagine just how mad with power they'd go. Nonetheless, so many people go without it that it's pratically magician's rules not to use it.

Let it be known that there's always an exception to every rule. Meet David Robbins, the rising star stage magician who's actually a magician, not just some illusionist who learned his fair share of parlor tricks. David's shows are the cheddar to other's swiss - no loose threads exist to pick up on.

As is to be expected, this real magic brings in quite the crowds! No one else has a show like David's - be it what he does, his big personality, or some other thing. No matter what, there's at least something to draw one to his shows.

For one, he's honest. All the showy flim and flam is just how he rolls, which makes for a very interesting person to be around. He's got humor, charisma, the works. You can hear, when he talks, that he's meant for the stage.

To boot, his magic is just as interesting as he is. The usual suspects weren't involved - divines, tomes, etc. Instead, it came as a matter of circumstance. David had always wanted to be a magician, so he would always spend his free time praticing some old tricks. Rabbit out of a hat? Done, done, done. Pick a card? Routine. Sleight of hand? Known like the back of it.

All of his tricks were well-received, yes - but they were conventional, tried and true. He needed something exciting, something enticing!

Levitation? Nah.

Escape? Too risky.

Mind reading? Mneh.

Eventually, once he got around to another show, he opted for a disappearing act. One unique disappearing act. He got his assistant, provided some hokey incantation, and with a puff...it was just him! With a noticeable, wriggling bulge in the middle, though. Astonishment came...but the connection never did, for the wider audience. What fortune!

After such, he actually got into researching magic. All of the arcane, worn scripts, newer documentation? Read and read. He doesn't just want to prove magic's real - he wants to master it.

As experienced, chaotically flamboyant, and stylish as he is...I'd say you should keep an eye on yourself around him and the other on him. Who knows what magic really can do? More properly - who knows what his magic can do?
