Preface
There are many a race in the world that were despised not only by humans, but by many of the other feyfolk and even monsterous races, often times each kind finding their own to hate in turn.
Then, there are the drow.
The drow were never intentionally hated in the beginning. Elves of the ancient kin who had forsworn their families and woodland beginnings to delve deep into the underworld caverns, both in the name of religious freedom and the freedom to practice magic as they saw fit, something the elves had all but stopped in certain types of magic, due to their 'effect on the natural world.'
Of course, this was thousands upon thousands of years before it all happened, but because of this, the drow has grew twisted...skin darkening as night to allow them to hide from their foes. From this isolation grew many things. Sadism, Cruelty, hatred, racism, slavery, pride, wrath, greed, lust...Things that those of religion would call sins of the utmost evil...
So the Drow grew a reputation. A reputation most all of them
Loved
...Except for the exiles.
Backstory
There are always exiles.
There are -always- people that do not fit in. That are hated by their families, hated for their personalities, their fame, their beauty, or any number of things. Sometimes it is even out of the sheer fact that their other family members commited crimes they do not even know of that they are scorned and exiled.
Shi'ntel is one of these children. She has a clan name, yes. A proud clan...in fact one of the highest clerics was her mother, and her father one of the strongest wizards. She never knows this, because the day she was born was the very day they died.
A coup de etet, the best way to put it. One clan falling and another clan rising from their fall, stricking the clan from existence and never allowing another to even dare speak the name of that clan again, let alone allowing any from the clan to live.
And yet, here was this babe, beautiful and raident purple eyes, hair down to her knees. It was a sign of purity, even to the drow, to have a child born with the snow white hair of their ancestors, and even the new high cleric could not bring herself to slit the babe's throat.
They did not scorn her...and yet, they knew she had no place in this underdark, where all would know of her past. So, dubbing her 'Shi'ntel' (Paraiah), she was brought to the surface by the scouts, brought to one of the human cities, and given to a family who they thought would care for her.
Needless to say, that stormy morning that the Sylvan elf family was woken up early by a knock, only to find a beautiful grey-skinned elf and a note written in a language they hade never seen before...it changed their lives.
Shi'ntel
A Drow child.
Sylvan parents...and a drow child. The parents looked at this young girl who they could not help but adopt and wondered what in the world they were going to do for her.
At first, they just researched drow as a whole. They didn't want the child to not be knowing of her roots, and even did everything in their power to learn and speak the language to the young girl. Drow, thankfully, is not -that- far from Sylvan in speech pattern, if not a bit hard for them to speak at times. The writing was far worse, but as Shi'ntel grew, she was able to write the language in its trademark spiral with ease.
In fact, she learned very -very- easily. It was a marvel to the parents, but she was speaking, walking and somewhat writing easily into her second year of age, her third proving to show she had an aptitude toward learning any language. By the time she was going to kindergarden, she was speaking a plethora of languages, much to the annoyance of some of the parents, as their children would come home speaking a different language as well!
The Shi'ntel in the picture, though, is a teenage Shi'ntel. Well into her sophomore year, she having to transfer to a new school, as her parents quite literally moved to a bigger city. Not only because they wanted their young daughter to get the best education, but as well to let Shi'ntel experience what life in the bigger cities was like...and maybe even find some other surface drow to speak and learn from.
Personality
Living on the surface has done Shi'ntel a lot of good. True, she had took to her own language way too easily, as well as the language of the surface elves, but this only adds to her mystique. Not hated, but found exotic for most of her life, people were rather nice to her.
Because of this, she is a nice, well adjusted person. A little teasy and mean at times, as nature can always shine through, but she never goes too far and always apologizes for anyone she felt like she had hurt. She always goes out of her way to help people as well, and though she does feel like she gets odd, angry stares from other elves, she tries to make friends with anyone she is able to.
