Sharla Khans, daughter to a raiding party's chief and Paladin of Death. No, that's not a fancy title or anything. Paladins are similar to warlocks, serving their god in exchange for powers. Well, Sharla here serves Death, the literal embodiment of death. Their arrangement began during an altercation. Sharla was in her teens, training under her mother, when a knight's brigade from the capital came to get rid of them. Sharla didn't hate them for it, they were raiders and bandits afterall. But, surrounded by death and destruction, Sharla heard a voice. "I will grant you the ability to take life... In exchange for your service..." Sharla, not wishing to die herself, eagerly accepted the proposition. Her body, now aware of magic, put her new patron's tools to the test. Her fallen comrades and family arose, slaughtering the knight's brigade before disintegrating to dust. Nowhere to go and no one to rely on, she would travel to a nearby town.
Having never actually participated in a raiding party herself, she didn't have any wanted posters showing her face. It was easy to transfer the training she did have to the adventuring life, but she also had to juggle being a servant of death with it. Though, goblin hunting quests do help her to keep her end of the bargain. Being a Death Paladin, she naturally has to deliver death to do her mistress' bidding. But, she can't make a place be TOO devoid of life, else you knock things too out of wack. Lady Death as Sharla calls her is neither good nor evil, but she certainly doesn't wanna break the truce with Life. It's a delicate balance afterall.
Anyways, fast forward to the modern day for Sharla. Well respected and high-ranking in the adventurers guild, a devotee to death, and a powerful fighter capable of all manner of brutality, from cutting down a field of monsters only to raise their corpses for the fight to summoning a legion of skeletons for her purposes, she is rightfully known as a one-woman army. Though, being able to speak to the dead and touch ghosts certainly helps add to her usefulness off of the battlefield as well. She enjoys sweets and veggies, enjoys going fishing on her down time, and paying her respects to her patron every time she walks past a church. Though, rumor has it she may be looking for someone that she could hold tight at night...
Oh, and uh... She's capable of embuing her weapon with her death magic. So that's fun!
