Shadow, the ultimate life form, created on Space Colony Ark by Dr.Gerald Robotnik for one purpose and one purpose only, to set humanity on the path it deserved, either to a prosperous future or an imminent demise. Shadow's destiny was created for him, a being bound by the fate of his late creator, he denied this.

When the Ark was invaded and it's entire staff killed including Gerald and his granddaughter Maria, Shadow's legacy dictated that he shoould bring the human race to it's knees in revenge, however after fighting against a blue hedgehog and his band of allies Shadow's resolve waned, he questioned his morality and ended up making his own choice, sacrificing himself to save humanity from the terror that was the Bio-Lizard. This wasn't the end for Shadow however.

Years later during a break in of one of Dr.Eggman's secret lairs, Rouge the Bat who once fought by Shadow's side was shocked to see him alive and well, suspended in a stasis pod. She set about releasing him from his imprisonment only for him to be targeted by one of Eggman's most advanced robots E-123 Omega, the two fought it out, only coming to a hault when Rouge came between them, setting aside their differences they resolved to work together for mutual goals. Omega wanted to destroy his creator who had abandoned him and Shadow wished to restore his lost memory, only remembering his name and a few vague events and faces from his past.
