The Scarlet Devil Manor of Gensokyo, the home of the lovely Remilia Scarlet and her family and staff, a venerable ancient vampire, over five hundred years old. She is a dangerous and powerful individual, said to have the ability to manipulate fate...and she is trapped in the body of a cute little girl. Well, not trapped, that would imply that she dislikes her body. She's perfectly satisfied with it... most of the time at least.

However, as impressive and intimidating as Remilia Scarlet is, there is far more to the mansion than just the lady herself. There is the expansive staff of fairy maids, hundreds of them, who...well. To put it bluntly they keep their uniforms clean and feed themselves. They do almost nothing to actually clean the manor and are more of a token, basic security force, company, playthings, and etc than actual maids. No the actual maid of the Scarlet Devil Mansion is Sakuya Izayoi, the right hand of Remilia Scarlet, the only human living in the manor and a woman with the ability to control time, as mysterious as her mistress and quite cold. Sakuya is the one who prepares the food for the many residents, and considering Youkai must consume humans to actually be Youkai, well...that makes her quite cold towards her own kind indeed.

This is not helped by the particular demands of one particular resident of the mansion. Flandre Scarlet, the younger sister of Remilia, while also over five hundred years old, her body is a touch younger. This has led to her mind not being as mature, unable to grow. As a result, she is somewhat more dangerous than most other members of the mansion. While friendly and cheerful and usually safe, she has no comprehension of what someone can or can't survive. Playtime could involve playing with dolls, or running for your life as she tries her best to kill you, or an extended stay in her stomach to see how long you can last. Her usual food are pastries...meat pastries, guess what the meat is.

Thanks to Flandre's instability, keeping her inside of the mansion is actually quite important. This is the job of all the manor, but one in particular is the 'handler' so to speak. Patchouli Knowledge is a Youkai of intense magical ability, able to command the elements with ease. Among this is the ability to conjure rain, or trap someone in a prison of flowing water. Vampires cannot cross running water, and this means as long as she can trap Flandre in a prison of water, she can ensure that Flandre can do nothing but sit and pout until she has calmed down. Aside from that, Patchouli maintains the library of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, it has thousands upon thousands of books, many of which are Patchouli's own grimoires containing the spells she's created.

Sakuya is busy enough with cleaning the manor without adding a librarian's duties, and Patchouli, with her somewhat frail health, needs some assistance. So, that is where Koakuma comes in, the cute, succubus assistant to Patchouli Knowledge. While not as proficient as Patchouli her physical health is much better, leaving her more freely able to help manage the massive library that Patchouli runs.

Finally, we come to the last piece of the puzzle, Hong Meiling, the Youkai whose species isn't exactly known (it starts with D). She is the gatekeeper, there to ensure that no one enters the manor who is not allowed. She is quite diligent at her guard, and is a focused and powerful martial artist. Any humans trying to get in will almost undoubtedly fail, while particularly strong fellow Youkai she can struggle against thanks to her lack of specialties, more of an all rounder. Still she's quite friendly and cheerful, and as long as you don't try to get into the manor, she'll even chat idly with you as she guards the gate.

The Manor is a pleasant, well maintained place over all, and hey! One can get inside without being food. Remilia sleeps during the day, but at night, with no real responsibilities, her time is spent throwing lavish parties for the people of the area! Most are welcome provided they're polite, and only a few people vanish, leaving suspicious bulges, or wonderful, high quality dishes in their place. So why not stop on by? Or perhaps try to sneak in to steal some of its valuables? Be it magic books or more mundane things.
