Astolfo was a joke of a servant, til he picked up a saber. While not on par with, say, Artoria, Astolfo found he was far more formidable of an opponent, and it shows.
It seemed, however, because of his status, he required more sustenance than he previously did as a rider. It was with that concept in mind he found himself snacking on a combination of not only his master's energies, but those unfortunate (or fortunate) enough to fall under his blade.
