Appearance

Relatively tall for a kobold, Saasraa is otherwise similar in build and appearance to her kin. Her scales are all very fine giving them a smooth almost silky surface. She generally wears little unless it's practical to do otherwise. Generally it's enough to keep herself decent, but never so much as to impede movement or something that she can't slip out of should it prove a hindrance. She does keep a few token baubles and trophies on her person, whether a few feathers or a geode, but she never keeps anything she can't afford to lose.

Personality

Generally timid when away from familiar ground, Saassraa is not a very outgoing being. She is slow to warm up to new people places and situations, but can be downright vicious if somebody tries to force her into something she's not comfortable with, fighting tooth and claw to return to a position of self control, or at least familiarity. Of course this effort only goes on as long as she believes it has a chance of success. If she doesn't see a way out, Saassraa will do whatever it takes to survive, waiting and hoping for another opportunity to present itself.

Background

From a very young age, Saassraa had long been at odds with the beliefs that were ingrained into most kobolds. Rather than shun and hide from other cultures, she believed that it was much better to learn more about them, even at some point meet and socialize with them. As soon as she reached the age where she could make decisions for herself she did what she could to pursue these ideals. Showing the remarkable kobold work ethic, she dove into what knowledge there was available in spoken tales and knowledge passed down by the tribe as well as memorizing the few tomes the shaman had on the world beyond.
Knowing that xenophobia and isolation could only go so far, Saassraa volunteered to explore for her tribe, mapping out new areas of the massive cave system that connected to the carefully managed mines her people called home. During this time, she developed her abilities. She learned to move silently and go unseen by the creatures that stalked the caverns, to fashion and use rudimentary and improvised weapons. She even learned about the world of the surface, making short trips to the surface to scout for the civilizations that she yearned for. Most importantly however, she honed her trap making skills, leaving ingenious devices (that were marked with glyphs known only to her tribe) to secure different areas, areas that could be used as refuge herself and for the time she knew came when her people would expand their borders.
It was on what would be her final expedition however, that disaster struck. Seeing a chasm with a mysterious glow at the bottom, Saassraa investigated. Out of nowhere, the tunnel collapsed behind her, pushing the kobold off the steep ledge. Falling down the glow intensified until it burned her eyes, blinding her to a sudden, jarring impact. Upon waking, nothing seemed familiar. The stone of the tunnels was unfamiliar, the paths within changed, and suddenly the earth started to rumble anew. Wounded, lost, and out of options, Saassraa did the only thing that made sense: She ran upwards. For what seemed like hours she fled tears streaming down her eyes. She was utterly convinced that the caves that she had spent her entire life in, the hewn and natural stone that had housed and protected her and her clan for as long as anyone could remember had rejected her. When she finally reached the surface, she fell to the grass utterly exhausted as the exit she had found collapsed in on itself like the maw of a hungry beast. Before she lost consciousness she could see strange things; lights in the distance and plants that she could barely remember the names of.
