Born in a temperate realm, raised with her fiery older sister Lina, Rylai the Crystal Maiden soon found that her innate elemental affinity to ice created trouble for all those around her. Wellsprings and mountain rivers froze in moments if she stopped to rest nearby; ripening crops were bitten by frost, and fruiting orchards turned to mazes of ice and came crashing down, spoiled. When their exasperated parents packed Lina off to the equator, Rylai found herself banished to the cold northern realm, where she was taken in by an Ice Witch who had carved herself a hermitage at the crown of the Blueheart Glacier. After long study, the wizard pronounced her ready for solitary practice and left Rylai to take her place, descending into the glacier to hibernate for a thousand years. The crystal maiden's mastery of the Frozen Arts has only deepened since that time, and now her skills are almost unmatched.

Now a lone wanderer, the ice maiden is a lovable little sorceress with hardly a mean bone in her frigid little body. However, evildoers (and to a lesser extent, her sister) are on the receiving end of her wrath; she's capable of freezing people solid, crippling their movement with a nova of ice, and calling down a large storm of destructive falling ice shards. In addition, her ice-cold body emantes an aura which makes magic much easier for herself and her allies to use repeatedly, making extended combat vastly preferable for her.

Her fifth ability is a seldom used one; she can use the ice to compress someone or her own form, shrinking herself or another person. After 12-84 hours, depending on the strength she used behind it, the tiny person will rapidly regrow, but only if the space around them is large enough. The problem with this spell is that it is easily predicted and reflected by even the most amateur magi, and she spent an awkward night in her sister's glass bottle because of it. Optional.

The simple way to defeat the Crystal Maiden is to jump her and stop her before she can get any spells off; or, simply follow her sisters example and burn her up instantly, removing the coldness of her body which is necessary for both her magic and her well-being, putting her into a fever-like state until she eventually recovers.
