Considering herself a mapmaker, adventurer, field researcher, and naturalist, Ruya is a fledgeling fox of the land. Although at the moment her multiple services are often sub-par at best, the effort that she puts into them cannot be understated. It's hard work out in the wild when you don't have someone else to learn from.
Being born to a tribe of fox people, she was given the name Yumi at birth. As she grew older and decided to leave the tribe in search of work and adventure, she found many travelers that were hesitant to work with a beastkin, or at worst, were actively hostile towards her. Deciding to take on a name less indicative of her background, she took on the name Ruya so her advertisements and applications to guilds were more likely to be accepted. This has had little effect so far.
To try and carve out a niche for herself, Ruya has taken to making field guides for the provinces of her land, including noteable edible foliage, landmarks, lodging, and even monsters to beware. In the course of this research, though, she finds herself most interested with the monsters she comes across. Some magical, some brutish, and some crafty, she finds each and every distinct monster and makes an elaborate profile of them. Obviously, this is dangerous work, so she often tries to enlist others as bodyguards. Rumors say she instead uses them as bait against monsters so she can study their feeding habits or hunting style, instead...
Personality-wise, Ruya is a hard worker who isn't afraid to go to extreme measures to achieve her goals. In this respect, she could be considered self-centered, but she is upfront about this. A friendship is worth much to her, but it is difficult to reach that point, especially if your interests and hers diverge. Slightly rude and perhaps too outspoken about herself at times, she thinks many people look down on her, which sometimes contributes to her pushing them away.
In combat, Ruya is no slouch. Without quick feet, knowledge of her surroundings, and a keen eye, she would have fallen prey ages ago. Even when forced into battle- such as when she gets too close to monsters in the course of her studies- she can hold her own, using a combination of pre-prepared sands that inflict various magical effects along with her surprisingly strong kicks. Knowledge of each monster's weak point is also essential.
On occasion, Ruya has also been known to taste monsters for herself and determine their use as a high-risk food source. This practice isn't habitual, though, as she often does not have the power to overwhelm monsters to such a degree.
Her antics, especially in agricultural provinces where she often steals crops, she has made some enemies who wish to see her apprehended, or worse. Certain communities even place bounties on her head- she does her best to avoid those areas, when possible.
