The king of Zora's Domain was grieved of when his wife died of a fatal illness that all who is left to care for is his beloved daughter. Ruto is the Zora princess who occasionally offered fish to Jabu-Jabu. But Ruto had a very dark secret. One time, Jabu-Jabu accidentally ate Princess Ruto when she was just a little baby, but she really enjoyed it. Ruto had started to practice eating people by eating fish she could find in her favorite hiding place without letting her father know. One day, when she was feeding him fish, Jabu-Jabu ate Ruto on purpose this time and she was feeling devastated when she lost her prized possession, the Zora's Sapphire.

Then she got it back and got out thanks to Link, a brave young boy who came from Kokiri Forest. Ruto gave him the Zora's Sapphire only in return that they will get married when they become of age. Seven years later after Zora's Domain became frozen, Princess Ruto escaped to Lake Hylia to where she will rule as the Water Sage. And once again got Link to help her defeat the demonic amoeba monster that was taking away all the water in Hyrule. Ganondorf the King of Evil was later defeated by Link and Princess Zelda and so Princess Ruto can finally live her normal life, waiting for her true love to return for her.

Little did the Zoras know that they did not figure out of how Jabu-Jabu died for it was actually Princess Ruto who ate the giant fish. Princess Ruto had grown into a fine woman living in Lake Hylia, that she is now ready to eat the people who disturb the lake or just for fun. Fisherman and monsters occasionally disappear at Lake Hylia and find themselves inside of the Zora princess' tummy before being digested. She is quite a beautiful yet deadly predator since she was experiencing it with Jabu-Jabu. But then, the big day finally came. Ruto and Link got married and they live peacefully in their underwater lake home Ruto had discovered below Lake Hylia during her seven years of exile. She couldn't be any happier now.

One night, Ruto had made an unusal discovery shortly during her marriage. Despite female Zoras can lay eggs, Ruto is pregnant because of Link's sperm mixing with her unfertilized eggs, causing a chain reaction that will have Ruto experience what it's like to carry a baby in her womb, making her the first pregnant Zora in history. Link and Ruto had later moved to a similar home deep in the Lost Woods since they are close friends to Saria. And during her pregnancy, Ruto was given lessons on how to play the ocarina by none other than Princess Zelda herself, who had given Ruto's unborn children her blessing and privilege to visit Hyrule anytime. Saria and Ruto have been able to spend more time together when Link is out on his adventures to save Hyrule each time evil threatens to take over.

But when the Calamity Ganon had attacked Hyrule, Ruto fled and escaped from the destruction of the kingdom, far away from home. And since Link was nowhere to be found, she believed that he died fighting the Calamity Ganon. Everything Ruto had loved and cherished was lost and she left Hyrule to find a new home where she would raise her newborn sons. She found peace and sanctuary at the Zora Hall in Termina and Ruto decided to live there with her two boys. Ruto was later greeted by Saria, who tells a rumor that Link is still alive. After learning from this, Ruto goes with Saria and takes her two sons with her, as they return to Hyrule, which had become a quiet and peaceful, yet demolished landscape.
