Background
Some ponies are geniuses. Some insane. The line is rather blurred.
In this case, the inventor of this machine was a bit of both: Terrified by the possibility of the return of Sombra, and alarmed at the weakness of the Crystal Princess, she decided to make a 'fail-safe' backup, lest the Princess ever fall.

Scenarios

Uprising
In this verse, the grand unveiling of the machine went wrong...horribly wrong. Not only was the inventor 'missing', the robot also went rouge, 'removing' and digesting the actual Cadance for being a potential threat, and installing itself a top the Empire, as its eternal metal guardian. Attempts at revolt, sadness and external intervention are met with rather...dark ends.

Update: The night before the grand unveiling, Moon_Luna decided to take a sneak peak. Alas, while the alicorn was somewhat impressed by the 'parts' on offer by the machine, that didn't stop the somewhat faulty scanner from registering her as a threat to the empire and...removing her. In other news, the Royal stocks of fertilizer have increased.

Nexus
Following an attempt to 'secure' the mirror portal under the Crystal Castle that went /horrifically wrong/, the robot now finds itself within the Nexus, sans around recharge point, creator or data of its whereabouts. This could get...messy.

'Vorequestria'
This robot's standard fair! In either mark 1 or mark 2 of its design!
It travels across the Empire -and perhaps Equestria too-, bringing light and joy to the lives of lovers throughout the land, setting up anniversary dates, helping couples council and helping out with pregnancy attempts.
For changelings and loners, however? The results aren't as bright. Far more dark and fleshy.
