Richelieu, like most other naval musume, is designed as an amphibious assault unit. When in the water and expected to meet heavy resistance, a naval musume is equipped with its hull, giving it full armor and armament, but forcing it to remain at sea. When approaching a beach, however, the musume will shed her hull, taking the bare minimum of weaponry along with her. In the case of a battleship-musume, even the bare minimum of weapons is quite a bit.
In musume-form, they're also used to attack larger ships from underwater like colossal divers...this practice is frowned upon by most.
As one of the largest naval musume, and one of the most fearsomely armed, Richelieu has quite a reputation amongst her peers. She's a bit of an airhead sometimes, though, and she's also quite famous for her vanity, getting irritated at the slightest mar or mark on her 'graceful' frame.
The further she is from her target, the better...Richelieu prefers to strike at maximum range, staying away from retributive strikes. She's capable in-close, too, and she's actually adept at close-in combat using a mixed dance/martial art. Close combat between naval musume is, luckily, kept to a minimum.
Note: A ship named after its class is considered the 'lead ship'...the first example of that ship type, as with Richelieu.
